Jurong Shares Firm Amid Stock-Split Rumors

Shares of Jurong Shipyard Ltd. firmed by more than six percent in early Friday trading on rumors that the shipyard might announce a stock-split exercise to improve its liquidity, dealers and analysts said. Fueling the market's excitement over Jurong was SembCorp's impending news conference, possibly next week, where Jurong was expected to announce further merger details and restructuring of its shipyard operations. SembCorp, with a yard capacity of 1.8 million dwt, is the owner of Asia's largest shipyard outside Dubai.


Jurong Lays Off Nearly 250 Workers

Jurong Shipyard, part of SembCorp Industries Ltd., cut 249 jobs last week as part of the group's shipyard restructuring efforts. "Where practicable, attempts were made to re-deploy or reassign affected employees within the yards. Those who would not be re-deployed or whose jobs became redundant were retrenched," company officials said. Jurong Shipyard, with a workforce of 3,021 prior to the cutbacks, said discussions were held with respective shipyard unions


SembCorp Signs Long Term LNG Deal

Jurong Shipyard Wins Cableship Contract

SembCorp Marine said on Thursday its unit Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd has signed a $38.8 million contract to build a cable-laying and repair vessel for ASEAN Cableship Pte Ltd. Atwood Oceanics, Inc. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Atwood Oceanics Pacific Limited (AOPL), has been awarded a contract by Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd. to provide a newly constructed Mobile Offshore Semisubmersible Drilling Unit for a firm three year period, with an option to extend the firm period to six years.
