Elliott Bay Design Announces Promotions

Elliott Bay Design Group has announced two promotions within the firm. Brian King has been named vice president of engineering and Douglas Wolff has been promoted to vice president of operations. Brian King joined Elliott Bay Design Group in 1988 as the Seattle-based firm's Chief Marine Engineer. In the role of vice president, King will oversee and manage the firm's engineering and technical resources, ensuring superior quality and technical excellence. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in the states of Washington and Oregon and is a certified U. S. Coast Guard Chief Engineer of Motor and Gas Turbine Ships, Unrestricted, as well as a U. S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer Steam Vessels, Unrestricted. Douglas M. Wolff joined Elliott Bay Design Group in 1992 as the firm's Chief Naval Architect. With the added responsibility of vice president, Wolff will oversee the firm's staff of professionals and support personnel and will also head the firm's training program, which includes EBDG's in-house lecture series. Wolff is a licensed Professional Engineer in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in the States of Washington and Oregon.

ACL Acquires EBDG

American Commercial Lines Inc has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Elliott Bay Design Group, Ltd. (EBDG) a naval architecture and marine engineering firm. EBDG is located in Seattle, Wash., and has recently opened a second office in New Orleans, Louisiana. The financial terms of the investment were not disclosed but are not material to the Company. The new company, Elliott Bay Design Group LLC, will continue to provide naval architecture

Elliott Bay Design Group Announces Staff Additions

Elliott Bay Design Group announced that David Smith has joined the firm as Project Manager. Smith brings over 25 years of shipyard design and construction experience to the team and has worked in shipyards across the country. Smith is currently leading the design effort for a new Ship Docking Module. John Farmer joins the team as a Designer II. Farmer has a BS in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University and over 10 years of 3-D design and surface modeling experience

Historic Side-wheeler Christened

Elliott Bay Design Group of Seattle recently completed stability tests and calculations for the KLONDIKE SPIRIT, an all-steel side-wheeler recently built on the Yukon River in Alaska. The vessel, which can carry up to 120 passengers, will be used to take tourists on daytrips through the scenic Yukon canyons downriver of Dawson (Yukon, Canada) when it begins operation in June, 2005. Constructed in Eagle City, Alaska, by Nick Turner and Charlie House, the vessel offers three passenger decks

EBDG Staff Becomes LEED Accredited Professional

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) announced that Joe Payne, P.E. and senior electrical engineer, has earned his certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the U.S. Green Building Council.  LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) are building industry practitioners who have demonstrated their knowledge of green building practices and are able to facilitate the certification process through their familiarity with LEED requirements and resources

EBDG Adds Chief Engineer Position

EBDG’s New Orleans Office Growing

Elliott Bay Design Group's (EBDG) New Orleans office has added new staff and projects. Seattle-based EBDG opened its New Orleans branch in November 2006 with the key hires of Michael Walker, General Manager, and Sam Charters, Chief Marine Engineer. Recently joining the New Orleans staff as Senior Naval Architect is Steve McKnight, bringing with him 17 years of experience supporting the marine and offshore service industries

EBDG-Designed Sixty Five Roses Enters Service

Elliott Bay Design Group LLC (EBDG) recently announced the launch of the flagship vessel in its series of oil barge designs for Harley Marine Services (HMS).  With a length of 422 ft and a beam of 76 ft, the Sixty Five Roses has a capacity of 83,600 barrels. The vessel features a cargo heating system; two hose handling cranes, one of which is a jumbo crane for lifting offshore submarine hose connections and five hydraulic mooring winches designed for offshore mooring systems

EBDG New SNAME Fellows

Elliott Bay Design Group LLC (EBDG) announced that Douglas Wolff and James Cole have been named Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Fellows. Doug Wolff joined EBDG in 1992 and serves as Vice President of Staff Operations.  He has a BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Washington, Oregon, North Carolina and Louisiana.

EBDG Selected to Design New Steamship Authority Ferry

Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) has been selected by The Steamship Authority to design a new 250' ferry to replace the aging M/V ISLANDER, which carries passengers and vehicles between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. EBDG was recently awarded the contract to complete this multiple phase project which includes a Preliminary Design Study, Contract Design, Shipyard Bid Assistance, and Construction Support.
