Dominion E&P Names New Offshore VP

Dominion Exploration and Production, a subsidiary of Dominion, has appointed Richard L. “Rick” Fowler vice president and general manager, Gulf of Mexico Operations. The region includes Dominion E&P’s deepwater, Continental Shelf, and southern Louisiana assets. Fowler previously was general manager of deepwater development.


Hellespont Names New Panamax Tankers

Hellespont has officially named the last two of six panamax tankers constructed for the company at the New Century Shipbuilding Co Ltd in Jingjiang, China. The product carrier Hellespont Providence was named by Mrs. Daphne Papachristidis-Bove, wife of Alexander Papachristidis-Bove, President of Seatramp Tankers Inc. The Hellespont Protector, meanwhile, was named by Mrs. Andrea Meyer, wife of Kai-Kristian Meyer, Managing Director of HCI Capital, organizers of the financing of the vessels.

China VLCC Sells Two VLCCs

China Energy Transport Co., Ltd. (China VLCC) has sold two secondhand VLCCs to an unrelated third party for a total price of $117.5mln.   China VLCC is 51 percent owned by China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) and 49 percent owned by Sinotrans & CSC Group.   It has signed agreements with two Marshall Island-registered companies, Coral Shipowning and Medal Shipowing, under which China VLCC will sell a 297


HMY Yacht Sales Names New Brokers

HMY Yacht Sales proudly welcomes three new brokers to their firm. Don Millroy joins the Dania Beach office and is a veteran Coast Guard officer, airline pilot and yacht broker. Princess Cruises decide to name new cruise ship 'Regal Princess' as Fincantieri, Monfalcone, Italy lay the keel down. Following a traditional blessing by a priest, the ship's keel – which weighs approximately 500 tons – was moved into position by a huge crane onto the keel blocks. The computer-guided maneuver took only minutes, belying the more than 2 million man hours that will ultimately go into building the vessel


USACE Wilmington Christen New Survey Boat

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Wilmington District name new survey boat 'Swart' at the engineer repair yard. The boat is named after Dirk Swart III (1935-2011) who served as captain and operator of District survey vessel Gillette from 1971 to his retirement in 2002 at the age of 76.  Swart was not only the senior survey boat skipper, but he was also the last veteran of World War II to retire from the Wilmington District.

UK Ship Named for BBC Naturalist, but Boaty McBoatface Lives On

A new 200 million pound ($290 million) polar research ship is to be named after veteran BBC naturalist David Attenborough but the government promised on Friday that "Boaty McBoatface", the name which topped a public poll, would not be ignored.


Antofagasta Express: New Name, New Flag

Last month, the second of the two ships recently purchased from the Dutch shipping company NileDutch officially changed hands. The 222-meter-long and 35-meter-wide vessel will now sail for Hapag-Lloyd as the Antofagasta Express under the Chilean flag.
