Thor-Lube Bearing Receives Orders

Thordon Bearings Inc. of Canada recently received orders for environmentally friendly Thor-Lube sealed stern tube bearing systems for three LNG carrier newbuild projects in Korea and Japan. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd ordered systems for two ships, one for Shell International Gas Limited and the second for the Australian LNG Ship Operating Co. (ALSOC). Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan ordered the third system for a second Shell newbuild. All three vessels are due to be delivered in 2004.

Japan's March Ship Orders Up 23% From Last Year

Ship export contracts concluded by Japanese shipyards in March totaled 20 vessels, or 781,290 grt, an increase of 23.3 percent from a year earlier, an industry body said. A breakdown shows that there were orders for seven freighters, 11 bulk vessels and two oil tankers in March. For fiscal 1999 ended March, Japan received orders for 288 vessels, or 10.97 million grt, up 69.6 percent from the previous year.

Jinse Shipbuilding to Build First Ships Using AVEVA

Jinse Shipbuilding Co., a recent addition to the Korean shipbuilding industry based in Busan, will use AVEVA Marine to build its first ships. Jinse received orders for 32,000-dwt and 180,000-dwt bulk carriers, with the former due to be delivered by early 2008. “The onus is on us to build high quality ships in the most efficient manner,” said Kim Tae Hyoung, Director of Jinse Shipbuilding Co. “We believe that AVEVA Marine will lead to higher production accuracy

Samsung Heavy $1.2B LNG Ship Orders

According to a report from Bloomberg, Seoul-based Samsung Heavy Industries Co. received orders to build six liquefied natural gas carriers worth a total $1.2b as demand for the fuel surges, prompting a jump in the shares.   (Source: Bloomberg)

American Superconductor Receives Orders

American Superconductor Corporation has received orders for 279 miles of high temperature superconductor (HTS) wire during its fourth fiscal quarter. This is the largest amount of wire orders the company has received in one quarter. Orders received during the fourth quarter were from 11 different customers from four countries for multiple applications including motors, generators, power cables, industrial processing equipment and specialty electromagnets.

Patriot Mechanical Handling Receives Order

Patriot Mechanical Handling Inc. announce that it has received an order from Dalian New Shipbuilding, based in Dalian, China. This is an expansion of an existing relationship with Dalian, which the company expects to continue to grow. The Dalian order calls for Patriot to deliver 4 CTU's (Conductor Tensioning Systems) on the new builds being purchased by Noble drilling, Seatankers, and COSL respectively. The order is valued at $3,286,000

Hanjin Wins $294M In Orders

Hanjin Heavy Industries won orders totaling $294 million to build 10 ships for a Dutch firm, a German firm and one other European company. Hanjin Heavy said in a statement that Dutch firm Vroon B.V. ordered two 1,600 teu containerships and two 30,000 dwt chemical ships, worth a total of $96 million. It said Germany's Rickmers Reederei GmbH & Cie KG had ordered four 1,200-teu containerships worth $78 million and one other European company had ordered two 5

Sperry Marine Receives Orders for Fleet 77 Terminals

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has received an order from German shipowner Martime Gesellschaft für maritime Diensleistungen mbH to supply new-generation satellite communication systems for seven ships. The vessels -- four container ships, three gas tankers and one chemical tanker -- will be retrofitted with Sperry Marine's new digital NAVICOM F 77 marine satellite communication terminals, replacing the existing analogue Inmarsat-A systems.

EVAC Receives Order to Outfit Empress

Envirovac Inc. received an order from Nichols Brothers Boat Builders for the vacuum collection and treatment system for the "Empress of the North." Owner of the boat is American West Steamboat Company. EVAC will provide a specially designed four ejector/four pump vacuum collection system with 155 wall mounted toilets, 104 vacuum interface valves for gray water collection by vacuum and (2) ORCA IIA-500's for treatment of all black and gray water.

Dresser-Rand To Supply Power Generation Equipment For BP

Dresser-Rand has received orders to supply power generation equipment to the BP Deep Water Development Program in the Gulf of Mexico. The equipment is being supplied by Dresser-Rand's Norwegian operations in Kongsberg and Drammen is comprised of Dresser-Rand DR61G turbo generator sets powered by GE LM2500 gas turbines, which drive Siemens electrical generators. BP has placed security of supply orders at approximately $120 million for a total of 14 units
