Northrop Grumman Names Klein VP of M&TS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed Robert W. Klein vice president of Maritime and Tactical Systems (M&TS). He manages both the diverse range of current products in the M&TS portfolio and the development of new products for this domestic and international market segment. Klein leads a team that integrates sensors, systems, platforms, weapons, and networks into unique products. It is developing and producing several systems that detect or destroy mines at sea or on the beachheads; a new, high-speed combat craft with battle management capabilities; and, they are helping the U.S. Navy package some of these and many other systems into roll-on/roll-off packages of weapons and sensors for the distinct missions of the new Littoral Combat Ships. Klein joined Northrop Grumman in 1974 as an intern upon winning a Northrop Grumman Scholarship. Early in his career, Klein worked on the X-29 Forward Swept Wing demonstrator and various classified programs. Later, he became F-14 program chief engineer and then Engineering director for all programs.


Ranger Offshore Gains DNV Certification

Provider of offshore construction services, US-based Ranger Offshore, Inc., obtains various ISO Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certificates. Ranger Offshore has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO/TS 29001 certifications which are ecognized as the global benchmark for providing assurance about the ability to satisfy quality requirements and to enhance customer satisfaction. Trash Skimmer Boats

United Marine International LLC, of Baltimore, has delivered new Trashcat skimmer vessels to the cities of Baltimore and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The City of Baltimore took delivery of the first of two low profile Trashcat boats. UMI Model #TC-200L, with a 200 cu. ft. on-board storage capacity, is designed with a side-mounted operator's cab, which provides the operator with nearly seven ft. of overhead clearance. The second vessel, UMI Model #TC-200LP, has a unique extra low profile


Double Launching at HDW-Gaarden

On September 5, two 2,700 TEU container ships were launched at HDW-Gaarden in , a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. The two container ships are the second and the third of a series of three ships for the Hermann Buss shipping line in Leer. The MAIN TRADER was named by Gabriela Meyer, the wife of Jens-Uwe Meyer, financial consultant to the shipping line. The Mosel Trader was named by Dr. Ulrike Schäfer, the wife of Dr. Matthias Schäfer of the Buss family.


Basic Approval, Bal Pure Ballast Water Treatment

The Bal Pure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora received basic approval from the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 60th session, March 22-26, 2010.  As a result, Severn Trent De Nora has submitted its dossier for final approval of the system at an upcoming MEPC session. Severn Trent De Nora is also scheduled to conduct shipboard testing of the Bal Pure system May through November 2010 on the California Maritime


Oceanteam CSV Charter Extended to 2018 by Fugro

Oceanteam Shipping ASA (OTS) confirm the extension of the bareboat charter of their 'CSV Southern Ocean' by Fugro TS Marine Australia until the end of 2018. CSV Southern Ocean is a large construction support vessel jointly owned between Bourbon Offshore Norway AS and Oceanteam Shipping ASA. The owners say that the extension of the bareboat charter will further strenghten their contract backlog and secure future earnings.


Bisso Launches New Tug

Bisso Marine used the 700 ton capacity D/B Cappy Bisso to lift a new 635 ton tug Z-Drive Tractor tug. The draft of the tug was too deep to be launched in Houma, LA at the Main Iron Works shipyard, so the tug was lifted on to a materials barge where it was placed into support cribbing then delivered via the Intracoastal Waterway to New Orleans, LA. Once in New Orleans, LA, the D/B Cappy Bisso would again lift the tug from the deck of the materials barge and place it into the Mississippi


T&T Bisso Salvages Miss Janice

T&T Bisso has successfully salvaged the 72 ft 1600 hp vessel, Miss Janice, which recently sank in the Port of New Orleans in the Mississippi River.  T&T Bisso was contracted by owner’s representatives to immediately respond to stabilize the fuel and lube oil then remove the vessel from the busy ship channel where it sank in 85 ft of high current, zero visibility water.  T&T Bisso used its own divers and the Gulf of Mexico based 600t capacity D/B Lili Bisso to lift

1942- HMS Culver (ex-CGC Mendota--she was one of the "Lake" Class cutters transferred to the Royal Navy in 1941 under the Lend-Lease program) was torpedoed and sunk with 13 survivors. 1948- Mrs. Fannie M. Salter, keeper of the Turkey Point Lighthouse in upper Chesapeake Bay since 1925 and the last woman keeper of a lighthouse in the United States, retired from active service. Severn Trent De Nora’s BALPURE Completes Shipboard Testing

Non-indigenous species were no match for the BALPURE electrolytic disinfection ballast water treatment system. The BALPURE®ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora successfully completed shipboard testing in December 2010, effectively neutralizing non-indigenous species. The BALPURE system surpasses requirements for IMO G8 Type Approval and IMO Ballast Water Convention D-2 Standards. Type approval of theBALPURE system is anticipated in the first half of 2011.


Keppel to Build Jackup for China Waters
