Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed Robert W. Klein vice president of Maritime and Tactical Systems (M&TS). He manages both the diverse range of current products in the M&TS portfolio and the development of new products for this domestic and international market segment. Klein leads a team that integrates sensors, systems, platforms, weapons, and networks into unique products. It is developing and producing several systems that detect or destroy mines at sea or on the beachheads; a new, high-speed combat craft with battle management capabilities; and, they are helping the U.S. Navy package some of these and many other systems into roll-on/roll-off packages of weapons and sensors for the distinct missions of the new Littoral Combat Ships. Klein joined Northrop Grumman in 1974 as an intern upon winning a Northrop Grumman Scholarship. Early in his career, Klein worked on the X-29 Forward Swept Wing demonstrator and various classified programs. Later, he became F-14 program chief engineer and then Engineering director for all programs.

United Marine International LLC, of Baltimore, has delivered new Trashcat skimmer vessels to the cities of Baltimore and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The City of Baltimore took delivery of the first of two low profile Trashcat boats. On September 5, two 2,700 TEU container ships were launched at HDW-Gaarden in , a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. The two container ships are the second and the third of a series of three ships for the Hermann Buss shipping line in Leer. The MAIN TRADER was named by Gabriela Meyer, the wife of Jens-Uwe Meyer, financial consultant to the shipping line. The Mosel Trader was named by Dr. Ulrike Schäfer, the wife of Dr. Matthias Schäfer of the Buss family.
The Bal Pure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora received basic approval from the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 60th session, March 22-26, 2010. Bisso Marine used the 700 ton capacity D/B Cappy Bisso to lift a new 635 ton tug Z-Drive Tractor tug. The draft of the tug was too deep to be launched in Houma, LA at the Main Iron Works shipyard, so the tug was lifted on to a materials barge where it was placed into support cribbing then delivered via the Intracoastal Waterway to New Orleans, LA. Once in New Orleans, LA, the D/B Cappy Bisso would again lift the tug from the deck of the materials barge and place it into the Mississippi
Bisso Marine recently utilized the tandem heavy lift capabilities of the 700 ton capacity D/B Cappy Bisso and the 600 ton capacity D/B Lili Bisso to set an 1,100 ton newly built superstructure on to the hull of a new offshore vessel.
