Maersk Partners With Apex for North American Wind Energy

Maersk Line, Limited and Apex Offshore Wind Energy Partner to Bring Offshore Wind Energy to North America.   Apex Offshore Wind, LLC and Maersk Line, Limited today announced that they have established a working relationship to support the development, financing and construction of utility-scale offshore wind energy facilities in North America. US Offshore Wind Energy: First-Ever Lease Sale

Historic auction leases nearly 165,000 acres offshore Rhode Island and Massachusetts for wind energy development, to advance President’s Climate Action Plan. The provisional winner of the’s lease sale, which auctioned two leases for a Wind Energy Area of 164,750 acres offshore Rhode Island and Massachusetts for wind energy development, is Deepwater Wind New England, LLC. When built, these areas could generate enough combined energy to power more than one million homes.


GE, Dept. of Energy Enter Partnership

GE Global Research in Niskayuna announced it has entered into a $27 million partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy to design a next-generation offshore wind turbine. As part of this new project, GE and the Department of Energy will collaborate on research to develop a prototype of a 5-7 megawatt offshore wind turbine that would be nearly twice today's industry standard, GE said. Nantucket Sound Cape Wind Energy Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) with regard to the proposed Cape Wind Energy Project on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound. The project, if approved, would involve installation and operation of 130 wind turbine generators, an electric service platform, and associated cable in the Nantucket Sound area.
