Aussie Pumps Wins Korean Navy Contract

A Sydney base pump manufacturer and defense contractor has won a contract, to supply 3” engine drive salvage pumps for the Republic Of Korea Navy. The pumps are unique and have application not only in Korea, but in warships and support vessels throughout the world."The original requirement was for a lightweight portable diesel drive salvage pump, capable of handling saltwater,” said Chief Engineer, John Hales. Chinese Shipyard Repairs Large Bulker on Time

The MV Handan Steel is an ore carrier belonging to an English company, size: LOA 330m Breadth 60m. The main engine repair involved   the chemical cleaning of the heat exchanger, M/E air cooler x 2sets, main L/O cooler x 1set, and main & auxiliary atmosphere condenser repair. The deck work scope mainly included No.5 cargo hold bulkhead partial steel renewal, E/R main engine ventilation duct to be cropped and renewed, installation of the limit for aft D/E. The coating work included  SA2 sandblasting for the bulkhead of five cargo holds from 16m high downwards with painting of two F/C, totally 14,630 m2, and the hull (16000m2) to be SA2 sandblasted with painting of two T/C, one F/C. The contracting time was 12 days.

Damen Shipyard Milestone with ASD Tug 3212

Damen Shipyards have delivered the ASD tugs ‘Karloo’ and ‘Kalarka’ to Half Tide Marine Pty Ltd of Australia. The tugs were built to the highly successful ASD Tug 3111 design, which in common with most Damen vessels, has been the subject of constant research and improvement. Product: Deck Machinery & Cargo Handling Equipment

Techcrane Global Corporation is a Covington, La.-based marine crane manufacturer/distributor who recently installed Techcrane Model F250-100 onboard Torch Offshore L.L.C.'s Midnight Wrangler. This was a crane custom-designed for Torch with a maximum capacity of 125 tons at 30-ft. reach. Time lapse between design conceptions to fabrication in Covington, La., was less than six months. The bid was awarded to Techcrane in December of 2002 for delivery in mid 2003 and is a part of the project to convert the Midnight Wrangler into a deepwater pipelaying vessel. In order to accommodate these deepwater arenas, a winch was specially designed by Lantec on behalf of Techcrane for the F250 to handle 8,000 ft. of two-in. wire rope.

Damen Delivers Three ASD Tugs to Kenya

The Damen ASD Tugs 3110 SIMBA III, KIBOKO II AND NYANGUMI II are not the first Damen Tugs to be used in the port of Mombasa. “EL-LAMY”, a Stan Tug 3300 with a bollard pull of 55 ton. § It is used as harbour for import and exports as a gateway to East Africa. For these purposes freighters and container vessels up to 85.000 ton visit the port. § Of even more importance is the function of the harbour as a cruise vessel port. The largest cruise vessels like “Queen Elisabeth” visit the port regularly.

3.MAJ Delivers Innovative Tanker

Croatian-based shipyard, 3.MAJ Brodogradilište, delivered the first of a contracted four-part tanker series this past August. Named M/T Margara, the 71,345-tdw oil tanker was constructed for Monte Carlo based owners subsidiary Doria Shipping Co., registered in Valetta, Malta. The $150 million contract for the vessels' construction was signed in March 1997, with a term loan facility arranged by Merrill Lynch Intl. of London, who provided financing during construction. The Croatian Government, who arranged for a counter bank guarantee to be obtained from Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, provided additional assistance. The Maltese-flagged, ABS-classed vessel, which is intended for transportation of crude oil and oil products, measures 750 ft. (228.5 m) with a gt of 40,705.
