ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has been awarded a $216 million contract to deliver a gas treatment plant to the South Tunisian Gas Project (STGP).The order was awarded by OMV Tunisie Production GmbH, a subsidiary of Austrian energy group OMV, and was booked in the third quarter. ABB will be responsible for the turnkey delivery of the Nawara gas treatment plant (GTP) including gas separation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) extraction units. It will also provide key automation, communications and power components, including the control system and transformers and switchgear for the electrification of the plant.

ABB inform that its technology will power ice-going LNG carriers carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Siberia to Europe and Asia, having  secured a contract to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for the first of 16 Yamal LNG carriers. The contract, which includes options to equip 15 further vessels, is part of a project to transport LNG from the Yamal peninsula in Northwest Siberia to Asia and Europe. The order was booked in the first quarter. A consortium of partners, headed by Russian gas producer Novatek, have joined the Yamal project to open up gas from the Yamal peninsula, which is located inside the Arctic Circle and locked in ice for most of the year.

ABB say that the first documented results from Onboard DC Grid vessel confirm considerable fuel and noise reduction through the use of its Onboard DC Grid, where engines to run at variable speeds for top fuel efficiency at each load level. ABB explain that its Onboard DC Grid represents a breakthrough for the maritime industry in optimized propulsion by distributing power through a single DC circuit providing significant power savings while also improving the safety and redundancy compared with traditional AC systems. up to 27 percent. Power and automation technology group, ABB, informs it has won three orders worth $60 million for internal and external telecommunication systems for three Statoil projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The three contracts have been signed with leading shipyards in South Korea. ABB will be a system integrator of telecommunications on the offshore installations built for the Aasta Hansteen and Gina Krog fields in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and for the Mariner field in the British sector.

The orders make 2013 the best-ever year for ABB in cruise liners with the Azipod system. The six ships include two for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), two for Royal Caribbean International and one each for Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Lines, all leading brands in the cruise market. The orders were booked over the course of the year, with about $30 million in the first quarter, about $90 million in the second, about $30 million in the third, and the remaining $30 million in the fourth.

ABB has entered a US$100-million research and development joint industry program (JIP) with Statoil to develop solutions for transmission, distribution and power conversion systems designed to power and control subsea pumps and gas compressors at depths of 3,000 meters, and over vast distances. The agreement is seen as an important step on the path to develop complete subsea oil and gas producing facilities. Statoil is leading the JIP on behalf of other participating oil companies, while ABB is responsible for developing the new technology.

ABB wins contract worth $20 million for providing power & automation technologies to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) built by the Chinese shipyard COSCO Nantong for Dana Petroleum. ABB's delivery will contribute to efficient and safe operations, and reliable power distribution on board. The FPSO will have Sevan Marine's characteristic cylindrical design and will be located on the Western Isles field on the UK Continental Shelf, 160 kilometres east of the Shetland Islands.

ABB won a $26m order to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for two next generation ‘Ramform’ vessels, capable of three-dimensional (3D) seismic data acquisition for deep sea resource exploration. The ships will be constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and delivered in 2015 to Norway’s Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS), a leading company in marine seismic and reservoir data acquisition, processing and analysis/interpretation services. Oil and gas companies use this data to explore for hydrocarbon accumulations, develop new oil and gas fields, and manage their producing fields.

ABB signs a $260 million service contract with A/S Norske Shell for operations at the Draugen and Ormen Lange oil & gas fields. The contract is for a period of 9 years and requires ABB to provide integrated service and support solutions for the Draugen offshore oil platform and the nearby Ormen Lange onshore gas processing plant on the west coast of Norway. The agreement includes the option of two consecutive two year contracts and covers both the oil and gas fields, as well as future expansions, tie-ins and upgrades. ABB has delivered significant annual savings over five successive years since it was awarded the first service contract by A/S Norske Shell in 2007. The contract scope includes the system’s integration across the electric, instrument, control and telecommunication systems.

ABB won orders worth $160m from Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. for the design, supply, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning of the main electrical systems for seven next generation drill ships that will operate in the deep water oil and gas fields off the coast of Brazil. The orders were booked in the fourth quarter of last year and first quarter of this year. The ships will be used to drill wells in the enormous offshore pre-salt fields off the southeast coast of Brazil.

ABB wins a contract worth about US$40-million to extend the export terminal of the eni (Energy Rifinery Co.) refinery in Taranto. The eni refinery is located in the “Mar Grande” bay on the Ionian Sea in southern Italy. The contract is part of eni’s plan to improve the refinery infrastructure and to ensure a reliable connection with the onshore Tempa Rossa oil plant. The refinery is located at the export terminal and is connected to the oil field through an underground pipeline. The plan includes the extension of an existing pier. “This new project will help to improve the local oil transportation infrastructure for eni,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division. The pier will have five loading arms, with a transfer capacity of 3,000 cubic meters per hour.

This addition to ABB’s portfolio will enhance the recently released offering of Marine Advisory Systems. Amarcon will join ABB’s Process Automation Division. As energy cost, emissions and ship safety become increasingly important on ships, the need for advisory systems will grow.

ABB recently won an order worth $80 million from Samsung Heavy Industries to supply energy efficient drives, motors and electrical power systems for five drilling vessels and two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be built at Samsung’s shipyard in Korea. The vessels will be used to extract, process and transport oil and gas. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2012. Samsung Heavy Industries, a branch of the giant South-Korean holding, focuses its shipyard business on a wide range of large vessel types, including LNG carriers, drill ships and semi-submersible drilling rigs.

Zurich, Switzerland, May 16, 2012 -- ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, recently won an order worth $18 million from Daewoo to supply energy efficient propulsion and electrical power systems for two new deep sea pipeline installation vessels that will build oil transport infrastructure off the coast of Brazil. The order was booked in the first quarter. South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) will build the vessels.
