Remembered as one of the most influential businessmen in Pensacola's modern maritime industry, Mr. Brown was owner of Brown Marine Service
. At its peak, his company operated 16 tugboat and fuel-oil barges, which transported nearly three-quarters of all diesel and gasoline products to Pensacola and other Panhandle marine terminals. Mr. Brown was the son of a tugboat captain and grandson of a ship's captain.
