New System to Help Navy Track Merchant Ships

The Indian Navy has set up a constant monitoring system to maintain vigil on the increasing traffic of merchant ships in the city, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command Vice-Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi has announced.

The IMO had directed merchant ships of all countries to equip their ships with an automatic identification system (AIS), which gets transferred to the monitoring station through high frequency channels and satellites. Source: DNA
