CAE USA marine systems has named Capt. William H. Luebke to the newly created position of director of technology, effective Jan. 5. Luebke, who just retired from the U.S. Navy, will work with the division's existing management team to set, monitor and evaluate technical standards, as well as develop new engineering approaches to bring the best marine control solutions to market. Luebke is expected to work with technology leads in CAE's Tampa, Montreal and Norway facilities. He will report directly to Joe Lee Frank, president of CAE USA marine systems. According to Frank, "Capt. Luebke brings a wealth of knowledge to this position. He has distinguished himself in the naval service and is widely recognized for his technical expertise. He'll provide us with insight into our technology programs that will help drive process improvements across the board." Most recently Luebke was the technical director for the Future Concepts and Surface Ship Design Group of NAVSEA. As well, he was at one time program manager for the U.S. Navy's LPD 17 program, for which the marine systems group provided the engineering control system. The U.S. Navy has awarded Luebke three Legions of Merit and four Meritorious Service Medals. He has also won a number of industry awards, including the Department of Defense's Value Engineering award, the Secretary of the Navy's Competition and Procurement Excellence award and the Defense Certificate of Recognition for Acquisition Innovation. Luebke graduated with distinction in 1975 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He earned his doctorate in ocean engineering in 1987 from MIT and is a graduate of the Kellogg Business School Executive Program, among others.
