FleetMaster Installed in Marine Simulators

The FleetMaster Electronic Logbook from the Kongsberg Maritime subsidiary, Marine IT Company (MarITco), has been integrated into a marine simulator for the first time, at the Tromsø University College in Norway. “The FleetMaster system has been designed to reflect the look and feel of the forms found on paper logbooks, so it is not a difficult product to use,” says Bjarne Bjorken, Product Manager at MarITco. “However, we’ve had interest from several colleges wanting to integrate FleetMaster with their existing simulation suites so that they are able to offer a complete package to students.” Launched at Nor-Shipping in June, after extensive sea-trials, the FleetMaster Electronic Logbook is already proving itself as a viable alternative to traditional paper logbooks, and is currently installed on seven ships, with more enquiries and installations happening on a regular basis. The system offers several clear advantages over the paper logbook, not least the ability to transmit data to shore. “Tromsø University College is the first of what we believe will be many colleges taking on the FleetMaster system for simulation,” comments Lars Ole Bjornsrud, MarITco. “FleetMaster has a bright future ahead as it offers so many advantages over the traditional method of keeping log, so training in its use now, makes complete sense.”
