Golar LNG Invests in System to Promote Safety

Tuesday, January 07, 2003
Responding to global demands for heightened environmental responsibility, ship safety and the desire to drive increased efficiency and profitability, Golar LNG will install the Task Assistant TM suite of maritime software from Ulysses Systems on all company vessels and in land-based offices. Task Assistant TM will provide planned maintenance, purchasing, crewing, and quality and safety applications to Golar. The move follows a reference directly given by one of the leading industry classification societies and an extensive review of information management and safety procedures by Golar that highlighted the need for an integrated ship and shore application and improved integration with other software products "We were looking for a system that would ensure maximum safety at sea and environmental protection whilst maintaining and improving operational efficiency - we considered Task Assistant to satisfy these requirements," explained Graham Griffiths, General Manager Fleet, Golar LNG Ltd. "Competent local support in the UK and no need for costly training programmes were also key factors in the decision-making process" Task Assistant TM was developed with continuous practical maritime input from the managerial staff and crew at all levels of a traditional shipping company. The software suite is unique in that it provides all the information that may be needed to perform a specific task without the user having to search through thousands of functionality items for the required data. Not only does this significantly reduces the time taken to perform a task but also reduces training time tremendously and integrates all IT steps into a transparent, continuous and intuitive business process. "Task Assistant TM goes far beyond assisting management in procedural compliance," commented Panteleimon Pantelis, Director, Ulysses Systems (U K) Ltd. "The task-orientated approach provides instant access to up to the minute information relevant to the job in hand, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents resulting from missing information"
