Pilotage Maritimes du Havre, the famous French pilot station, has chosen a Transas bridge simulator to be used for training professional seafarers at their premises. The contract for supplying and installing the simulator, as well as for dedicated Instructor training, has been secured by Transas Europe GmbH, the official representative of the Transas Group in Western Europe, in close cooperation with Electronic Equipment S.A., their local partner in France. The simulator system to be installed in Le Havre represents the latest version of the Transas full mission ship handling simulator, Navi-Trainer Professional 4000. It will have nine visual channels, each of 30 degrees; Instructor control and monitoring station; integrated ARPA/radar module, Conning display station and ECDIS software; and dedicated hardware (real ship controls). The contract also stipulates the development of a new state-of-the-art visual exercise area for Le Havre, including the Port 2000, a new container terminal under construction, and the ports of Antifer and Fecamp, to be created with the specific requirements of Pilotage training in mind. The Transas navigation simulator will be located in a specially built site in Le Havre, which is currently under construction. According to the terms of the contract, the official opening ceremony of the new simulation facility is scheduled for January 2004. Le Havre pilots enjoy a reputation for a high-level of professionalism with excellent qualifications, long experience at sea and a perfect knowledge of channels and ports in the area. It is expected that the advanced training system from Transas will contribute to the strengthening of this expertise.
