LR Secures USCG Authorization

The US Coast Guard (USCG) has authorised Lloyd’s Register to act on its behalf for issuance of the Document of Compliance for US-flagged ships carrying dangerous goods. This authorisation underscores the continuing level of confidence the USCG places in the technical expertise and ability of Lloyd’s Register to verify compliance with safety requirements for US-flagged vessels. ‘Dangerous goods’ are hazardous substances, the carriage of which requires special safety measures to minimise the risk to vessels, crews and ports. Water and ventilation systems, personnel protection apparatus and fire detection equipment are some of the areas that require specialised scrutiny onboard ships carrying dangerous goods. “The Document of Compliance authorisation for ships carrying dangerous goods complements our significant and growing portfolio of authorisations,” says Paul Huber, President, Lloyd’s Register Americas. “Each authorisation is an acknowledgment that we have met the stringent requirements of one of the world’s most well-respected and authoritative port state control authorities.
