National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) has appointed
new Vice Presidents of Human Resources, Finance and Production Outfitting.
NASSCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
Donald H. Dame has been named Vice President – Human Resources ; he will report to Harris. Dame has over 30 years of human resources business experience. For the last seven years, he has been Vice President of Human Resources and Government Relations for Freeman Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, headquartered in Springfield, Ill.
Dame holds a degree in Mining Technology from Rend Lake College in Ina, Ill. and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
He has served on various advisory boards of both institutions, and has also served as a member and chairman of Training Resources Applied to Mining, sponsored by both Pennsylvania and West Virginia State Universities.
Robert E. Smith has been named NASSCO’s Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, also reporting to Harris.
Smith began his career in 1989 as a Cost Engineer at General Dynamics Electric Boat; subsequently holding positions of increasing responsibility within the finance organization of Electric Boat and at General Dynamics headquarters. Most recently, he was Director of Contracts and Estimating at Electric Boat. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989 from Clemson University and a master’s degree in Business Administration in 1993 from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Arthur L. Serpa has been named Vice President – Production Outfitting , a new position created to help NASSCO continue its role at the forefront of American shipbuilding. He will report to Janice Grace, Senior Vice President – Operations. Serpa’s career includes over 30 years at General Dynamics’ Electric Boat subsidiary’s Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, R.I. His career at Electric Boat began as a machinist and includes many positions of progressively increasing responsibility – supervisor, general foreman, superintendent, superintendent of modular construction, and manager of planning. His most recent position was as Director of Manufacturing at Quonset Point.
Serpa earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Industrial Technology from Rhode Island College.
Dame and Smith are replacing
Eric Murray, former Vice President of Human Resources and Finance at NASSCO, who has retired.
Serpa’s position is new.
