Policy on Prevention of Air Pollution

The US Coast Guard issued guidelines for ensuring compliance with MARPOL Annex VI on the prevention of air pollution from ships.  MARPOL Annex VI entered into force for the United States on January 8.  Coast Guard field units are directed to enforce the provisions of Annex VI against all pertinent US vessels and all foreign calling in US waters.  CG-543 Policy Letter 09-01 (February 4, 2009).
