Thomas B. Crowley Sr., Memorial Scholarships Presented to Three U.S.M.M.A. Midshipmen

Thursday, December 20, 2001
Continuing its tradition of supporting academic excellence, Crowley Maritime Corporation last week presented Thomas B. Crowley Sr., Memorial Scholarships to three midshipmen from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. Mark Miller, Manager of Corporate Communications for Crowley, presented scholarships to Michael Aubry, Michael Attanasio and Jason Craig at a Containerization & Intermodal Institute luncheon Thursday in New Jersey.

Midshipman Craig is a Logistics and Intermodal Transportation major from Tinley Park, Ill. In addition to his academic course load, he serves as executive officer for the academy's 3rd company of midshipmen. He is also captain of the crew team. After graduation, Craig plans on sailing and then pursuing an MBA in logistics. Craig received a $3,000 Crowley scholarship.

Midshipman Aubry is a Logistics and Intermodal Transportation major from Arlington Heights, Ill. He is currently in his final year at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He completed Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia last year. Upon graduation from the Academy, he will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Aubry received a $500 Crowley scholarship.

Midshipman Attanasio is a Marine Transportation major from Hollywood, Fla. He commands the Academy's Emergency Medical Services unit and serves as the Regimental Medical Liaison. Midshipman Attanasio's EMS unit formed a critical part of the Academy's volunteer response to the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001. In November 2001, Midshipman Attanasio signed a letter of intent to serve on active duty in the United States Coast Guard Reserve following graduation. Attanasio received a $500 Crowley scholarship. Over the years, Crowley Chairman, President and CEO, Tom Crowley Jr., has given tens of thousands of dollars to deserving students at the maritime academies and other select institutions in the name of his father Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who guided the company to extraordinary heights before passing away in 1994.
