Transas Completes Installation at Meriturva

Wednesday, August 14, 2002
In July 2002, Transas completed the installation of a large-scale simulation complex at the Meriturva Seafarer Educational Center in Helsinki, Finland. The procurement of this state-of-the-art simulator complex was achieved within the framework of the debt of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Finland based on the Russian-Finnish Inter-governmental Agreement of November 2000. With enhanced ship handling and VTS operator training facilities, the Meriturva center becomes one of the largest maritime training establishments in Europe. The new simulation facility comprises four full-mission navigational bridges; a VTS operator’s station; Instructor’s station; Engine Room Simulator; GMDSS Communications and LCH (Liquid Cargo Handling) simulators; as well as the Oil Spill Response Management simulator, OilGuard. The complex has also been fitted with several Transas Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), Navigational consoles which are used on board many Finnish vessels. The ship model library supplied with the simulator contains more than 60 highly accurate models of different types, including passenger vessels, high speed craft, container ships, tankers, fishing vessels, ferries and tugs. The sailing area database covers all the major navigational regions, straits and ports throughout the world. Following the request of Meriturva Center, Transas has developed new exercise areas for Finnish waters, including all fairways and pilot routes. This integrated simulator complex is typical of the capabilities of Transas to supply an integrated solution to meet many differing tasks and also to meet the demanding financial requirements of the client.
