The luxury yachting industry is set to enter a new era of quality and cost efficiency in the unlikeliest of places. U.S. based Tricon Marine, a high quality builder of FRP/Composite luxury yachts up to 180 feet long, recently broke ground on China’s first and only North American-owned and operated shipyard. The new facility will allow Tricon to offer its discriminating clientele of OEM manufacturers and custom yacht end users the highest quality design and construction at unprecedented value.
Located just outside the city of in ’s province, Tricon’s 55,000 sq. meter state-of-the-art facility is designed to operate at the highest American and European standards of craftsmanship, cleanliness and security. An initial $8-million investment is budgeted for Phase I with a total investment of $21-million over five years.
Production and employee training began in early-2007 on a 88 foot high-performance offshore vessel at Tricon’s temporary facility adjacent to its new yard-in-construction. The new shipyard is expected to be fully functional by August, 2008. At full capacity, the yard will be the largest for composite yacht construction in with a production capacity of 16 yachts indoor and in-water work on two additional yachts up to 55 meters in length at its pier. The company will be able complete up to $60 million in work per year depending on the size of the yachts under construction.
