Van Cappellen-USA Partners with Northern Lights

Friday, June 14, 2002
Van Cappellen USA, the North American affiliate office of the Van Cappellen Consultancy - the Netherlands (noise and vibration control), announces a joint technical development contract with Alaska Diesel Electric - Northern Lights of Andover, Massachusetts. This contract is for Van Cappellen and Northern Lights to provide enclosed land based military power supplies for use in rapid deployment expandable mobile shelters for a separate primary US military logistics contractor. Alaska Diesel Electric- Northern Lights is a world leader in marine power generation in both pleasure and commercial craft and was selected for this application largely on their track record for reliability and international distribution. Van Cappellen USA will supply overall technical design for a series of Northern Lights diesel generator sets destined to operate in the most extreme conditions. Noise, vibration and thermal profile attenuation will be achieved using design engineering from the Van Cappellen Dutch office. Specialty enclosure materials, anti-vibration mounting and exhaust silencers are coming from US and European acoustic materials and equipment manufacturers under the NoVitechniek brand name. Van Cappellen-USA will also distribute noise reduction materials from Sweden. Savannah, Georgia based Van Cappellen-USA has reached an agreement with a Swedish acoustical materials manufacturer to distribute anti-drumming compounds to the north American yacht and ship building market. Noxudol 3100 and 3101 are non-toxic, non-combustible, water borne, sprayable dampening compounds designed to reduce structure borne noise and vibration on steel, aluminum and GRP panels. Noxudol 3100 and 3101 tests exhibit low thermal conductivity to provide a thermal barrier against condensation and enhanced corrosion and abrasion resistance. Both materials are available to Shipyards, yacht builders, OEMs and retailers as part of the NoViTechniek group of noise reductions materials marketed by Van Cappellen USA. Noxudol 3100 and 3101 are being widely used in the European rail transport and shipbuilding business. Tests conducted for the French Navy and on several Swedish ferry projects have proven to reduce labor, weight and materials costs by as much as 40% as compared to traditional constrained layer dampening tile methods. Noxodol 3101 has also been tested for flame and smoke generation ot meets all international approvals for use in passenger vessels.
