NAMEPA Host Shipping Industry Awards Dinner

Canadian Tugboat Industry Conference Judged a Success

The 20th BC Tugboat Industry Conference was held May 23-25, 2013 in Victoria, BC. According to BC Shipping News, in addition to a retrospective of the industry – including presentations from Allan Fowlis (retired, Seaspan) who gave personal insights into the industry in its characters, and Leo Stradiotti (North Arm Transportation) who presented a pictoral of BC tugs from old to new – speakers such as Robert G.Allan (Robert Allan Ltd.), Fred Denning (BC Coast Pilots Ltd.), Malcolm McLaren (Allied Shipbuilders) and Frans Tjallingii (SMIT Marine Canada) each provided a unique perspective on aspects of the industry from technological developments to the relationship to pilots to towage and salvage in the international arena.

HB Rentals Names Johnston Regional Sale Manager

Offshore & onshore accommodation specialist, HB Rentals, a Superior Energy Services company, has named Colin Johnston Southeast Regional Sales Manager, announced Vice President of US Land, Troy Roussel. Operating out of Oklahoma, Johnston will lead the sales teams in Oklahoma, Arkansas; and Decatur, Texas. With recent organizational changes in the South business unit, Johnston has accepted the appointment to assist the division y giving much needed direction and stability to the sales team in the Southeast region.

World Maritime Day Observance in Tampa on 27 October

North American World Maritime Day Observance and US Coast Guard Missions Conference to feature Piracy, Stewardship, Safety and Security. Two day event draws maritime industry, regulators and regional representatives. Piracy will be the focus of this year’s North American World Maritime Day Observance being held in Tampa, FL on October 27th followed by a US Coast Guard Missions conference on October 28th which will feature panel discussions on the stewardship, safety and security missions of the Coast Guard. Both events will be held at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa and are free and open to the public. North American regional representatives from industry, government and NGO’s will dialog on these critically important regional issues.

N. American World Maritime Day Observance features Piracy, Stewardship, Safety

Piracy will be the focus of this year’s North American World Maritime Day Observance being held in Tampa, FL on October 27th followed by a US Coast Guard Missions conference on October 28th which will feature panel discussions on the stewardship, safety and security missions of the Coast Guard. Both events will be held at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa and are free and open to the public. North American regional representatives from industry, government and NGO’s will dialog on these critically important regional issues. The events directly follow the USCG Flag Officer’s conference and Innovation Expo. For the past several years, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has promoted awareness about the maritime community through World Maritime Day.

France First to Sign Hong Kong Recycling Convention

France has become the first country to sign, subject to ratification, the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009. The Ambassador of France to IMO, H.E. Mme. Odile Roussel, signed the Convention on behalf of her country at IMO Headquarters in London on Thursday, 19 November 2009. The Hong Kong Convention was adopted at a diplomatic conference in May 2009, attended by delegates from 63 countries. It is aimed at ensuring that ships, when being recycled after reaching the end of their operational lives, do not pose any unnecessary risk to human health and safety or to the environment.

Bollinger Announces Promotions

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., announced the following promotions and assignments of its management team in order to meet the demands of increased business, expanded services and new technologies according to the Lockport, La. headquartered shipbuilding and repair company. Craig Roussel has been named Vice President of Corporate Operations for the company. His responsibilities will include State government relations, business incentives, and management of our ISO/Quality System, Environmental Services and Corporate Communications. Darren Savoye has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Business Development for Bollinger Shipyards. He will be instrumental in continuing to develop relationships and future programs within the Department of Defense and other US Governmental agencies.

Coast Guard and HAL Co-Produce Training Cd-Rom

Cruise ships operating in Southeast Alaska now have access to an interactive training CD-ROM detailing Coast Guard regulations and procedures in the region. The release of the CD marks the first time that a comprehensive resource of this kind has been made available in a repeatable and professional format that cruise ship officers may access at their own pace. Created through collaboration between United States Coast Guard Sector Juneau and Holland America Line, the course is designed to educate cruise ship personnel about regulations enforced by the Coast Guard. "We are grateful to Holland America Line for their commitment and help on this project," said Captain Mark Guillory, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Juneau.

Bollinger Promotes Roussel to VP

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has promoted Cindie Roussel to Vice President of Procurement, Logistics, and Life Cycle Support for the South Louisiana-based shipbuilding and repair company. Roussel’s new responsibilities will include material and purchasing support and life cycle sustainment for all U.S. Government and commercial new construction programs. Roussel will continue to be involved in the management and future growth of CHAND, Bollinger's technical and logistic support division, and will also take a lead role in the future development and implementation of company-wide procurement initiatives. Roussel began her career with Bollinger in 1991 as the Integrated Logistics Support Manager for CHAND.

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., has promoted and/or assigned new responsibilities to the following members of its management team in order to meet the demands of increased business, new products, expanded services and new technologies according to Donald T. "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of the Lockport, La., headquartered shipbuilding and repair company. Mike Ellis has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of the company. "Mike's leadership ability and strategic vision has afforded him the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities within our organization", said Boysie Bollinger. Ellis joined Bollinger in 1998 as chief financial officer and will now be responsible for the overall operations of the company.
