First Lady Christens Newest National Security Cutter

First Lady Michelle Obama christened the Northrop Grumman-built (NYSE:NOC) U.S. Stratton is the third of eight planned National Security Cutters being built at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Pascagoula for the U.S. Coast Guard. With its 418-ft length and 4,700 ton full load displacement and state-of-the-art command and control systems, the NSC is the largest and most technologically advanced of the new multi-mission cutters. "Here in Pascagoula, you've been building ships for centuries," said Mrs. Obama. "It's in your blood—a proud tradition passed from generation to generation.

Cutter Waesche Commissioned

On May 7, the Northrop Grumman Corporation-built (NYSE:NOC) National Security Cutter (NSC) USCGC Waesche was commissioned, allowing the service's most technologically-advanced maritime asset to join the Coast Guard fleet. Waesche is named for Adm. Russell R. Waesche, who was the first Coast Guard commandant to achieve the rank of admiral. Cutter Waesche Delivered to USCG

The U.S. Coast Guard accepted the second Northrop Grumman Corporation-built (NYSE:NOC) National Security Cutter, Waesche (WMSL 751) Nov. 6 at the company's shipyard in Pascagoula. Following acceptance, the Coast Guard placed Waesche In-Commission Special during a ceremony on the flight deck of the ship. Prior to delivery, Waesche successfully completed a rigorous round of sea trials. During acceptance trials last month, she performed all required sea trial evolutions for the U.S.

Northrop Grumman Awarded $285m for Third NSC

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded $285.5 million for construction of the third National Security Cutter (WMSL 752), the newest and most capable multi-mission cutter in the United States Coast Guard fleet. Northrup Grumman Maintain Construction Momentum on Cutter

Unit 1120, which will complete the bow section of the first National Security Cutter under construction at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems' Pascagoula facility, was lifted into place this week. According to NSC General Ship Superintendent Royce Winbush, the unit encloses the anchor windlass machinery room and covers the chain lockers area on the cutter. Curtiss-Wright Wins Contract

Curtiss-Wright Corporation won a follow-on contract from Northrop Grumman Corporation for the supply of Aircraft Ship Integrated Secure and Traverse (ASIST) systems and Lightweight Track equipment. These systems will be installed on-board the new Deepwater National Security Cutter (NSC) class platform for the U.S. Coast Guard. Northrop Grumman Corporation is building the ship at their Pascagoula, Miss. facility, under contract from Integrated Coast Guard Systems LLP (ICGS), a joint venture of Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin. The NSC will be a 418 ft. (127 m) vessel with a 4,300-ton displacement at full load when delivered and will be powered by a twin screw combined diesel and gas turbine power propulsion plant designed to travel at maximum speed of 29 knots.

The U.S. Coast Guard recently announced that the first Deepwater National Security Cutter (NSC), being built at Northrop Grumman's Pascagoula, Miss. facility, will be named Bertholf in honor of the organization's first Commandant, Ellsworth Price Bertholf (1866-1921), according to a recent PrimeZone report. Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems sector is building the ship under contract from Integrated Coast Guard Systems LLP, a joint venture of Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin Corporation. The ship currently stands at 31 percent complete. The NSC will be a 418 ft. (127 m) ship with a 4,300-ton displacement at full load. Powered by a twin-screw combined diesel-and-gas turbine-power propulsion plant, the NSC is designed to travel at 28 knots max speed.
