ARC Adds New Ship
American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) announced that its M/V ARC Integrity loaded equipment from the Army’s 1st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) at the port of Rotterdam.The ARC Integrity is ARC’s latest addition to the U.S.-flag fleet, having re-flagged to U.S. registry in Bremerhaven, Germany in October 2019. ARC Integrity moved a mix of helicopters, vehicles, containers, and other ground support equipment for 1st CAB, the “Demon” Brigade, which now returns home to Fort Riley, Kansas after a ninth month rotation in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.The 3rd CAB “Marne Air” out of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia replaces the 1st CAB in Europe.
Coast Guard Rescues Savannah boaters
A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah rescued two boaters at 1:45 p.m. after they were forced to jump into the water when their vessel caught fire seven miles southeast of Tybee Island, Ga., today. Rescue coordinators from Coast Guard Group Charleston, S.C., diverted the helicopter crew, which was returning from a previous missions in Charleston and also launched a small boat from Station Tybee, Ga., to respond to the vessel fire. Wallace Thomas Jr, and Thomas Wright were located immediately by the Savannah helicopter crew. Both boaters were forced to abandon ship to avoid flames which had completely engulfed their 30 foot recreationaal boat. Each of the survivors were hoisted by the Coast Guard air crew and taken to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.
Military Sealift Command Ships Load Equipment Bound for Iraq
The first of three Military Sealift Command (MSC) ships set to carry Army cargo to Iraq this month began loading here April 3. The cargo belongs to the Third Infantry Division’s Second Brigade Combat Team and Combat Aviation Brigade of Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., which will deploy to Iraq later this year. Container ship MV American Tern, a privately owned, U.S.-flagged ship under long-term charter to MSC, is currently using three shipboard cranes to load 550 pieces of cargo consisting mostly of 20-foot containers. In addition, MSC’s large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off ships USNS Watson (T-AKR 310), and USNS Charlton (T-AKR 314) will load thousands of pieces of military equipment, including helicopters, Humvees, tanks and trucks.
