Marine contractor James P.Colie & Associates recently completed the turnkey renovation of several rooms aboard Maasdam for Holland America Line Westours at Atlantic Marine. The project took only 10 days.

Working on the design, purchasing and construction for the Maasdam project, designers and craftsmen from James P. Colie & Associates planned and outfitted Club Hal, which includes KidZone, a children's room that converts to a conference room on Deck 7, and Wave Runner, a newly constructed teen area on Deck 12 complete with a computer area, disco, inter-active video arcade, theater and restrooms.

Wave runner is a new 2,400-sq-ft. structure added to the ship by the shipyard. James P. Colie & Associates outfitted the interior of the new space to be a multi-function room with stacking chairs that can be set up for a 35-seat theater or cleared away to easily convert the room into a disco.

Wave Runner also features seven computer workstations and several interactive video game machines. An accordion partition closes off the theater portion of the room when needed. The teen area has a capacity of 100.

According to the lead designer for the project, Jean Dapena, director of operations & designs at James P. Colie & Associates, the look of Wave Runner is a two-tone pewter and blue wave design on the pre-fabricated wall panels and black mesh solar shades and pewter wavy valances on the windows.

"We carried the same wave design into the floor and ceiling design and the surface of the computer workstations," Dapena said.
