IMCA Publishes Simulator Use Guidelines

Simulators are used increasingly in the marine contracting industry, in particular for training and competence purposes, but also for work planning/mission planning purposes including engineering development, procedure development, technical assessments, research and asset risk assessment. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has published a revision to ‘Guidance on the Use of Simulators’ (IMCA C 014 Rev 3). “This document, originally published in 2010 and updated in August 2011 and then again in June 2012, and now once more in 2013 – proof of the increasing use of simulators in our industry – provides guidance on the use of simulators in training and competence,’ explains IMCA’s Technical Director, Jane Bugler.

Don Rodocker: The Man in the Sea

In the early days of subsea technology, there were a number of pioneers: men and women who stepped over the edge of what we knew about the underwater world. These individuals left the comfort of solid ground to explore beneath the waves and report back to the rest of us what they had seen. They pushed boundaries, raised the stakes and in some instances opened our minds to the possibilities. They were subsea visionaries. Today, those boundaries continue to be pushed, and undersea technology, now more than ever, is reaching new heights.

Coughlin Wins Bisso Safety Award Drawing

Bisso Marine announced that Sean Coughlin is the winner of the inaugural Bisso Marine Safety Award Drawing. Coughlin was selected from a pool of 166 eligible employees. To be eligible for the drawing, an employee must be employed by the company for the entire calendar year without having had an accident, safety infraction, negative performance review, or disciplinary write-up. Coughlin was given the choice of selecting a new Mako 1901 bay boat with a 150 hp engine; a new Nitro Z-7 bass boat with a 150 hp engine, or a new Toyota Tundra V8 double cab pick-up truck.
