Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Crowley Maritime Corporation and Richard du Moulin, president of Marine Transport Corporation (MTC), jointly announced that with the successful integration of MTC into Crowley, du Moulin will be resigning from MTC to pursue other business interests. Crowley acquired Weehawken, N.J.-based MTC in February 2001. Mark Filanowski, senior vice president and chief financial officer of MTC, will also be leaving the company. Both resignations will take effect April 1, 2002. du Moulin had been Chairman of MTC since 1989 when he and Filanowski, utilizing their company Intrepid Shipping, acquired what was then NASDAQ-listed Marine Transport Lines, Inc. (MTL).

Three Vericor Power Systems' TF50 marine aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected to power the 118 Wallypower high-speed yacht being built by Intermarine Shipyard, Sarzana, Italy for Wally Yacht. This is Wally Yacht's first foray into high-speed power yachts, and the company's initial application of gas turbines. Wally Yacht, based in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is a world-renowned designer of high-speed sailing and power yachts. The 118-ft. yacht will feature three TF50 gas turbines in a Combined Diesel Or Gas (CODOG) turbine configuration. Two TF50s will be used as side or "wing" engines, with one small auxiliary diesel engine connected to each wing engine. The diesels will provide for very slow maneuvering only.

The Seamen’s Church Institute of New York and New Jersey held the 25th Annual Silver Bell Awards Dinner on June 11 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. It drew a record crowd of more than 900 people and raised over $600,000 for the Institute. "We are thankful for the support of the maritime industry and our friends," said the Rev. Canon Peter Larom, SCI's Executive Director. Richard T. du Moulin, President of Intrepid Shipping and Silver Bell Dinner Chairman since 1996, reported that 15 new companies joined SCI's loyal supporters. Globalization of shipping will be the theme of the 11th annual Hellenic-American and Norwegian-American annual conference. Algoma Central Corp., has struck a deal with China's Jiangxi Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. to build three double-hulled oil product tankers. The tankers will cost $91m to build and will be delivered in late 2010 and early 2011. Algoma Central said the vessels will be operated and employed jointly with Bernhard Schulte, Sloman Neptun and Intrepid Shipping, who have ordered sister ships from the same Chinese shipyard. The new opportunity allows for further diversification of the company within the global shipping industry, Algoma said. Source: The Star

Algoma Central Corp., through a wholly-owned subsidiary, has entered into an agreement with the Jiangxi Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. located in Jiangxi, China to construct three double-hulled, IMO II, petroleum product tankers. Deliveries of these three 16,500 DWT vessels are scheduled to commence in late 2010 with completion in early 2011 and they are expected to cost pproximately $91m in total. These vessels will be operated and employed jointly with Bernhard Schulte, Sloman Neptun and Intrepid Shipping who have ordered a series of sister ships from the same shipyard.
