Cummins QSK60 HPI Aux Engine Tier II Cert.

April 5, 2010

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has received a statement of compliance from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certifying the QSK60 HPI auxiliary engine to IMO Tier II emissions standards. The 60-liter, V-16 cylinder engine joins a full line-up of IMO Tier II compliant propulsion and auxiliary engines from 78 – 1925 kW (104 – 2547 HP) available from Cummins.

The QSK60 features the proven Cummins High Pressure Injection (HPI) electronic fuel system and the same lubrication, cooling, air handling and exhaust systems as the IMO Tier I product. Further, the engine shares similar hardware with its predecessor including engine mounts, vessel connections and optional equipment, simplifying vessel installation and repowers. While hardware and technology remain unchanged, a minor calibration change allowed for emissions reduction without significantly impacting fuel consumption.

Two ratings will be available for auxiliary and generating set applications, 1563 kW (2095 HP) @ 1500 rpm and 1900 kW (2547 HP) @ 1800 rpm, making this product a good choice for diesel electric vessels operating globally. In addition, marine society approvals are available from major classification societies worldwide. Production will begin in Q3 2010 at the Daventry Engine Plant in Daventry, England.

The engine is covered by a comprehensive global one year warranty valid at authorized Cummins service outlets worldwide. It is also backed by Cummins industry-leading Mobile QuickServe program, offering factory-certified technicians, the most sophisticated diagnostic and repair tools in the industry, and the largest international parts and service network of any engine manufacturer.
