New Incat Crowther-designed Fast Ferries Delivered for Germany’s North Sea Island Residents

Three new Incat Crowther-designed fast ferries have been delivered to serve the residents of Germany’s North Sea Island communities, who are set to receive a new commuter ferry service to the mainland.The new ferries will service three busy routes between the North Frisian Islands and Neuharlingersiel, located on the north coast of Germany’s mainland.The three vessels, named WattnExpress, Inselexpress I and Watt Sprinter, have been constructed by Singapore-based Penguin Shipyard International.According to Incat Crowther…

'Smart Boulders' Measure Seafloor Avalanches

Researchers have deployed high-tech robotic sensors disguised as boulders for the first time to measure the initiation and evolution of the huge, hard-to-measure seafloor avalanches that regularly damage global networks of seafloor telecommunication cables.The so-called "smart boulders" revealed some surprising findings that will help inform where best to lay the seafloor cables that keep the internet running. Terex Port Solutions Acquires CVS Ferrari's Tractor Product Line

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has acquired the assets of the terminal tractor product line from CVS Ferrari S.R.L. (CVS), which has been part of Manitex International, Inc. since 2010. The acquisition strengthens TPS’ position as a leader in integrated solutions for ports and terminals. The existing range of terminal tractor models will be further developed and marketed under the Terex site in Lentigione, Italy, which currently manufactures Terex addition to heavy-load forklift trucks. CVS will fulfill current supply contracts with its existing customers. At the same time, TPS is taking all necessary measures to quickly integrate the new products in its sales, R&D, production and service activities.

Monjasa Buys Tanker from Eships

The Monjasa Group has purchased a tanker, M/T Eships Bainunah, from Abu Dhabi based Eships, the company announced today. The Turkish-built (2005), IMO-II, 8,000 DWT vessel, which is double hull and fully equipped for bunkering, has been operating for Monjasa on time charter, but is due to become part of Monjasa’s fleet by January 2015, when the group will also begin handling the ship’s technical management. The tanker will then undergo a name change, becoming the African Sprinter, and will be flagged under EU flag (Malta).

Brazilian Ferry Launched

AFAI Southern Shipyard and CoCo Yachts Holland announced that the first Urban Sprinter 2000, yard number ASA 042, was launched August 14, 2014. The Urban Sprinter 2000 was designed by CoCo Yachts Holland and built by AFAI Southern Shipyard in Guangzhou for SETRANS Rio de Janeiro. The ASA042, temporarily named 01, is the first vessel out of a series of seven. The final name of the vessel will be announced later, after the people of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói have given their suggestions and votes for the names of all vessels.

Suezmax Vessel Delivered to NAT

Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT) took delivery of its 21st Suezmax vessel, the Nordic Sprinter, built in 2005 at a shipyard in Korea. NAT agreed to purchase the vessel along with its sistership for $36.5 million each. NAT expects the delivery of the second vessel in early August 2014, bringing the company’s fleet to 22 Suezmax vessels in operation. Going forward, NAT said it is “seeking to increase its dividend and earnings capacity through further expansion when the time is right to do so.” nat.bm

Terex Port Solutions Delivers 1,000th Straddle Carrier

Landmark machine goes to long-time customer North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH & Co Würzburg, Germany, 11 July, 2014 – A ceremony today marked the departure of the 1,000th diesel-electric straddle carrier from the Terex Port Solutions (TPS) facility in Würzburg. The celebration was attended by the straddle carrier’s new owner as well as the Terex team members who built the machine. The landmark machine is going to long-time customer North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH & Co (NTB) as part of an order comprising a total of more than 30 Terex® N SC 644 E straddle carriers. The machines feature a lifting capacity of up to 60 t under spreader and can stack 9'6" high-cube containers 1-over-3.

1935- CWO (GUN) and NAP Charles T. Thrun, Coast Guard Aviator Number 3, was killed when his Grumman JF-2 Duck (CGNR V136) crashed at Cape May. CWO Thrun was the first Coast Guard aviator to die in the line of duty. 1937- CG units began flood relief operations in the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys. These operations lasted until 11 March and resulted in the rescue of hundreds of victims and thousands of farm animals. 1946- Staged jointly by the Coast Guard and the Navy, the first public demonstration of LORAN was held at Floyd Bennett Field in New York. 1949-The tanker Gulfstream collided with icebreaker CGC Eastwind. The collision and resulting fire killed 13 of Eastwind's crew, nine of whom were chief petty officers.

Danaos Receives New Containerships

Danaos Corporation (NYSE: DAC) announced that it has taken delivery of all five 2,200 TEU containerships; a deal which was announced back in July. The vessels were delivered as follows: the Hyundai Vladivostok, on July 23, the Hyundai Advance, on August 20, the Hyundai Stride, on September 5, Hyundai Future On October 2, and the Hyundai Sprinter October 15. 2007, all chartered to Hyundai Merchant Marine for 10 years. Further, according to plan, the 4,253 TEU YM Seattle and the 4,300 TEU Norasia Atria were delivered to Danaos on September 10, and on October 9, 2007 respectively, both chartered to the Yang Ming Group for 12 years.

Danaos to Acquire Five 2 Containerships

Danaos Corporation announced has signed contracts to acquire five 1997 built, 2,200 TEU containerships. These vessels, the H.Vladivostok, H.Advance, H. Stride, H. Future, and the H.Sprinter were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The size of the deal is slightly in excess of $150 million and the vessels are expected to be delivered to Danaos during July, August, September and October, 2007. The acquisition will be financed by existing credit facilities and own funds. Danaos also announced that subsequent to the acquisition agreement it has arranged ten-year charter agreements for these five vessels with Hyundai Merchant Marine at fixed daily rates which reflect current market conditions.
