MARAD Awards $9.5 Mln for Marine Highways Projects

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) awarded $9.5 million in grants to eight marine highways projects across the Nation under the America’s Marine Highway Program. The funding supports the enhancement of navigable waterways and expands existing waterborne freight services in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington and American Samoa.“This Federal assistance will provide additional options to reduce congestion on the roads and help the surrounding local communities’ and the regions’ economic recovery…

MOL Trials 360 Birds-Eye-View Tugboat

Japanese shipping line Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) collaborated with Oki Electric Industry (OKI), to launch a joint study on the use of OKI's bird's-eye view monitoring system to monitor a 360° field of view around a tugboat.The system was installed on the tugboat Asaka Maru and a preliminary experiment was conducted, said a press release.As a tugboat approaches a large vessel for assistance, only a small part of the vessel's hull can be seen from tug's bridge, and therefore, the tugboat relies on instructions through the radio from the pilot onboard the target vessel.The experiment was done in a situation with OKI's "FlyingView" setting four fish-eye cameras on the mast…

Thirteen Dead as Fishing boat and Tanker Collide

Thirteen Chinese fishermen died after their boat collided with a Hong Kong oil tanker in international waters off Japan, state media Xinhua reported on Friday, citing sources at China's consulate in Osaka. Three people were found alive after Thursday's collision. It was not known if there was any damage to the tanker or what caused the accident. The two vessels collided 400 km (240 miles) north of the Oki Islands in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, east of North Korea, state media reported. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, Xinhua reported. The 290-tonne Chinese fishing vessel Lurong Yuanyu 378 had 16 people on board, according to the South China Morning Post.

As the Central Ohio River Business Association (CORBA) pushes commerce on the Ohio River, stakeholders are beginning to take notice. On January 19, in an office tower overlooking the Ohio River, Eric Thomas convened the first meeting of 2017 for a business group working in the 13th largest port in the U.S.: the Ports of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky (PCNK). Thomas serves as the Executive Director of CORBA – the Central Ohio River Business Association. PCNK’s high rank is likely a surprise to many.

Dockwise Announces Q4 and 2007 Results

DOCKWISE Ltd., announced its Q4 and full year 2007 results. Revenue increased 15% to USD 290 million (USD 252 million 2006). Milestone projects executed successfully: for example installation of GX deck offshore Nigeria, transport of 3 jack-up rigs on the same voyage, transport of a 6th generation semi-submersible rig and transport of the Tahiti SPAR, the largest SPAR ever. Adjusted EBITDA* increased 39% to USD 141 million (USD 102 million in 2006) . Adjusted EBITDA margin increased to 45% (40% in 2006). Total CAPEX of USD 908 million including the acquisition of Sealift, OKI and ODL.

Dockwise Acquires Offshore Kinematics

Sealift Ltd, the parent company of the Dockwise group of companies has signed an agreement to acquire the entire share capital of Offshore Kinematics Inc (OKI) and Ocean Dynamics LLC (ODL). As consideration for the acquisition, the company has agreed to issue 6.9 million new shares, of which 3.2 million will be held in escrow and released in annual installments over 3 years, plus $15.7m in cash to the current principals of OKI and ODL. The company expects revenue synergies and growth potential for the Dockwise Group from these acquisitions. This combination enhances the Dockwise Group position as a leading integrated transport and installation service provider for the Oil and Gas sector, in particular through float overs.
