General Dynamics Awarded $36M Contract

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

December 29, 2003

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $36.6 million contract to provide engineering and technical services and production in support of the multi-purpose processor program for submarines. The program is a combination of hardware and software that enables submarines to process data collected by towed and hull sonar arrays. The processed data provides valuable information regarding the location of other nearby vessels and thereby increases the survivability and lethality of the submarine. The multi-purpose processor program is installed on SSN 688, SSN 688I, SSN 774, SSN 21, SSGN and SSBN 726 Class submarines and is a major subsystem of the Acoustic Rapid Commercial Off-The-Shelf Insertion (A-RCI) system. This contract continues work previously done by Digital Systems Resources, Inc., which was acquired by General Dynamics and became part of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems on Sept. 10. Work under this contract will include engineering and technical services and associated materials for the design and development of upgrades, systems support and production. Work under the contract base period is expected to be completed in April 2005.
