Survitec's Evacuation Systems in Focus at SMM

Survitec Group is promoting its range of Marine Evacuation Systems (MES) at SMM 2014. The company said it can supply systems to suit every type of vessel, from small high speed ferries through to mid-sized passenger ships, large ROPAX and cruise ships.

In 1979 the group launched the world's first MES. Since then, Survitec has continued to develop its MES range. It now includes systems manufactured under the RFD, SurvitecZodiac, DSB, RFD Toyo, DBC and Brude brand names.

The DSB Cat-Slide MES, Brude KOPAS and SurvitecZodiac Evacuation Slide systems are designed principally for smaller ferries and passenger vessels with low freeboards. Easy to operate, these systems can typically be deployed with minimal input from the ship's crew.

The lightweight SurvitecZodiac Medium Inflatable Slide (MIS) has proved an ideal solution for High Speed Craft and medium sized passenger vessels where freeboard heights range from 3.8m and 12.5m. Incorporating a twin-track inflatable slide that deploys at right angles to a ships' side, it is packed with 150, 100 and 50-person Open Reversible and SOLAS Self-Righting Throw Over liferafts.

Survitec Group’s Brude MES chute is the latest addition to the MES portfolio. Offering 100% manual operation, these systems can be installed on a wide range of vessels with freeboard heights from 1.5m to 26m. Complementing the Brude range is the DBC marine evacuation vertical chute system. Efficient, flexible, cost-effective and easy to use, this MES works at heights up to 33m.

The RFD Marin Ark, which was first launched to international acclaim in 1999, is aimed at large capacity passenger vessels. The latest model features an advanced helical slide design, simple bowsing, increased capacity and a reduced footprint. Easy to deploy, it is designed to instil a high degree of crew confidence in an emergency. To date, over 2000 RFD Marin Ark Reversible SOLAS liferafts have been installed on ships worldwide.

In early 2014, building on its experience of mass evacuation, Survitec developed and approved a new fully automatic MES for the offshore market that provides a reliable and alternative means of escape from offshore oil installations, jack up rigs and FPSO/FSU/FPSU. Once deployed, evacuees enter a protected container mounted at deck level and travel down an escape chute into a single high capacity liferaft that sits below the chute column. This unique design allows for direct liferaft entry and eliminates the need for cross boarding from a self-inflated boarding platform to additional rafts.

Survitec is exhibiting in Hall B5 on Stand 324. Experts from the company's MES team will be on hand throughout SMM to answer questions on the unique features and benefits of each MES system.
