Evergreen Group Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Evergreen Group celebrated its 50th Anniversary at the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, home of the charity set-up by Evergreen Group Founder and Chairman Dr. Y.F. Chang, said a press release from the company.In addition to senior executives and employees of the Group’s businesses, the event was also attended by public officials, customers and business agents from both the shipping and airline industries as well as representatives of supply chain partners from more than fifty countries.The celebration commenced with a performance by the choir of the Yihsing branch of Jiahsing Elementary School from Hsinchu County. Kalmar Delivers RTGs to Evergreen

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has successfully delivered five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corporation in Taiwan. The cranes will be used in Taoyuan Inland Container Terminal and Hsichih Inland Container Terminal. Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corporation offers inland container terminal services to customers all over Taiwan, including lifting operations and control of inbound and outbound containers; container repairing and cleaning service; and warehousing in the distribution center. Chang Leaves Evergreen

Evergreen Marine Corporation said that Chang Kuo-wei, the late founder's son, was no longer on its board of directors, reports local media. Chang's seat on its board of directors will be filled by Hsieh Huey-chuan. According to observers, the Chang Kuo-wei faced the latest setback in his losing war of succession when he left the board of Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corp. Evergreen International Storage, one of Evergreen Group’s publicly traded businesses, announced a reassignment of its corporate directors and supervisors. The shipping firm said Chang had been replaced with Wei Mao-chun, general manager of Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corp.

Succession Fight for Evergreen Heats Up

The feud among the scions of late billionaire Evergreen Group founder Chang Yung-fa's family boiled to the surface, reports local Taiwanese media. The struggle between the heirs to Evergreen Group has escalated as the three older brothers reportedly took drastic measures to undermine their younger brother’s accession to the helm of the family-run shipping and transportation empire. Evergreen Group founder Chang Yung-fa died on Jan. 20 and left a December 2014 will that named his youngest son, Chang Kuo-wei, chairman of Eva Airways and the only son of his second wife, as his successor and the sole inheritor of his estate worth billions of New Taiwan dollars.

Evergreen Group Orders Ten 8000 TEU vessels

Evergreen Group has placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in Taipei for ten 8,000-TEU L-class environmentally advanced container vessels. The first vessel is due for delivery in 2012 and will join Evergreen Line global containership fleet. Six of the new vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation and four for Evergreen International S.A. (Panama). The ships are being built at a cost of $103m each. The new ships will be constructed under the innovative Greenship design concept developed by Evergreen Group Chairman Dr. Chang Yung-Fa nearly 10 years ago and first introduced in 2003. The highly developed features have been built into every Evergreen Line vessel since then. The Greenship program has taken environmental protection and compliance to a superior level.

Evergreen Affirms Commitment to the Port of Kaohsiung

Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd, which currently operates two large container terminals in the Port of Kaohsiung, has extended its lease on its Container Terminal No 4 facility (Piers 115 and 116) for a further 10 years. The lease extension contract, which covers the period from 1 March 2008 to 28 February 2018, was signed by EMC’s President, Jack Yen, and Director-General of the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau, Ming-Hui Shieh, at the Evergreen International building in Taoyuan on 27 December. Container Terminal No 4 opened for business in 1987 on a 206,480m² site with a total quay length of 596m. The berths are served by six post-Panamax gantry cranes, 26 rail mounted gantry cranes and six empty container stackers.

Evergreen Tagged with $25M Bill

The United States Attorneys from five judicial districts with major ports today announced criminal charges against Evergreen International, S.A. (Evergreen), one of many Evergreen-related companies involved in the container ship business. Under the terms of a plea agreement, Evergreen will pay $25 million, the largest-ever amount for a case involving deliberate vessel pollution, and plead guilty to felony charges brought in Los Angeles; Newark, NJ; Portland, OR; Seattle; and Charleston, SC. Evergreen pleaded guilty today to 24 felony counts and one misdemeanor - five counts from each federal district involved in the case - for concealing the deliberate, illegal discharge of waste oil and for a negligent discharge in the Columbia River.

Puget Sound Gets $1.7m for Restoration Projects

Fourteen projects to restore Puget Sound, Hood Canal and associated marine waters will take a big step forward this summer with funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Puget Sound Marine Conservation Fund. The Fund was established last year as part of the settlement of a criminal case with Evergreen International Shipping Line. John McKay, United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, was joined by Jay Manning, the Director of the Washington State Department of Ecology to announce the successful grant recipients today. “These grants will help in ways large and small to improve the health of Puget Sound,” said United States Attorney John McKay.
