Ship Repair Forum Changes to Reflect Current Events

Changes in the international political and economic climate will add new urgency to the theme of the Shiprepair & Conversion 2001 conference in London in November — gaining the edge in a competitive global industry. Marking the 10th anniversary of the event, the conference takes place alongside the industry's leading exhibition in the Grand Hall, Olympia, on November 28-29. A new pick-and-mix booking format offers cut-price entry to one or more of the four morning and afternoon sessions — giving delegates, exhibitors and visitors more scope to take part in both the conference and trade show, which will feature a record 360 exhibitors.

North of England P&I Club Renews Commitment to Danish Market

The ‘A’ rated, 75 million GT North of England P&I club reaffirmed its commitment to the Danish shipping industry this week with a reception for members, potential members and their advisors at Langelinie Pavillonen in Copenhagen. Guests included Lars Christensen, senior vice president and head of the tanker department at Norden, and Anders Schmidt, general claims and insurance manger of Clipper Bulk, both of whom represent Denmark on the club’s board of directors. Other ship-owning, operating and chartering companies represented at the event included Atlas Shipping, Clipper Elite Carriers, Comet Shipping, Custodia Shipping, Dannebrog Rederi, DFDS, Eitzen Bulk, NIMA Management, Norient Product Pool, TKB Shipping and TORM.

P&I Club Strengthens Management

North of England P&I club strengthened its management team with the appointment of four new directors to the board of its wholly owned management company, North Insurance Management Limited (NIML). The now 13-strong NIML board is led by managing director Rodney Eccleston and deputy managing directors Paul Jennings and Alan Wilson. The newly appointed directors are financial controller Jeff O’Neill, underwriter Thya Kathiravel, admiralty claims specialist Colin Trappe and FD&D specialist Katherine Birchall. All were formerly associate directors.

Owners Alerted to Possible Rises in S&P Disputes & P&I Premiums

The 'A' rated, 65 million GT North of England P&I Club has alerted shipowners in the Middle East and India yesterday (20 September 2006) to the possibility of more sale and purchase disputes and a further increase in their P&I premiums. The warnings were given at a seminar attended by around 80 representatives of Middle-Eastern and Indian shipowners at the Dubai Beach Resort in the UAE, which North of England organised in conjunction with sale and purchase experts from international shipping law firms Ince & Co and Mills & Co.
