Full Speed Ahead with Gas

The GREENSTREAM’s front-positioned wheelhouse is unusual for an inland ship.

Dutch-based Peters Shipyards introduces revolutionary Inland Shipping concept. Planned, developed and built by Dutch Peters Shipyards, located in Kampen, a unique inland tanker is now the world’s first river vessel driven by combustion engines consuming purely natural gas. Veka-Group Develops LNG Tankers

Veka-Group has developed  three new LNG tankers, which can also be used as bunker ships. Two tankers are destined for short sea trips and/or coastal services. The third tanker, a LNG inland waterway bunker ship, is the first of its type in the world. The tanker sails almost completely on the ‘boil off’ of the load and is 100% emission-free. After the introduction of the first bi-fuel tanker in the world, the “Pioneer Knutsen”, this is again a proof of Veka-Group’s innovative power. With the “Pioneer Knutsen”, Bijlsma Shipyard, member of the Veka-Group, was years ahead of her time.

GE Receives BV Certification

GE Transportation’s marine business has received type approval certification from Bureau Veritas (BV), Paris, France, for its family of Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI), medium-speed diesel engines. “The BV type approval certifies that our 8, 12 and 16 cylinder engines are manufactured with high quality at GE’s Grove City, Pennsylvania facility,” said John Manison, manager of GE Transportation’s marine business in Erie, Pa. “Over the past several years, we have earned BV, American Bureau of Shipping and Germanischer Lloyd type approvals for our diesel engine family.
