MAN Propulsion Package to Power GTS' Tanker Newbuilds

Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry in China have ordered four MAN 10L32/44CR main engines in connection with the construction of a quartet of 41,000 dwt oil-and-chemical tankers for Bremen-based German Tanker Shipping (GTS).The construction of the 199-meter Swedish Fartygskonstruktioner AB-designed newbuildings is set to start at Xiamen Shipbuilding with delivery scheduled from mid-2025 onward. Russian Energy Still Reaching UK Ports

Energy supplies originating from Russia were still being delivered to Britain on Friday after some dock workers at a terminal in southeast England sought to block a cargo in solidarity with Ukraine, ship-tracking data shows.Supplies of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe have been disrupted this week by uncertainty over whether ships can discharge cargoes at European ports after the imposition of sanctions on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine and a ban by British ports on Russian-linked ships.British union Unison has complained that its members working at the Isle of Grain LNG terminal did not want to accept Russian gas and called for tougher measures from the government.Britain on Tuesday banned from its ports all ships that are Russian owned…

Industry Pays Tribute to Innovation Awards Winners

Winners of the Lloyd’s List-SMM 2002 Awards for innovation in shipbuilding and marine technology were announced in the Hamburg Congress Centre last night (September 24) at a gala ceremony which brought day one of the world’s biggest maritime fair to a glittering conclusion. Several hundred leading industry figures gathered for the final stage of an initiative launched in March by Lloyd’s List and SMM organisers Hamburg Messe to recognise the technical advances which enable maritime commerce and defence. With 13 awards in three merchant and naval categories, the inaugural scheme attracted a massive wave of nominations for ships and support systems reflecting the cutting edge of ingenuity in improving performance, reducing costs and protecting the environment.

Germanischer Lloyd Classifies New Tankers

Classed by Germanischer Lloyd, the 31,600 dwt Seychelles Pride is a new addition to GL's stable of technologically sophisticated double-hull product tankers. Designed for the transport of chemicals (IMO Type 3), oil, and oil products, it represents a further development of the "Lindenau Safety Tanker Class 2004" which has received a number of international awards for innovative design and safety. Delivered in June 2002, it is the fifth vessel in this successful series to be classed by GL. Built for Seychelles Shipping Lines Ltd. by the Lindenau shipyard at Kiel, the new tanker will be operated by Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd. of Limassol.
