On 7th February 2003, the Supervisory Board of Germanischer Lloyd AG appointed
Hermann J. Klein
(45) as a member of the Executive Board with effect from 1st September 2003. Dr.
Klein will succeed Dr. tech. Hans G. Payer (64), who is to retire as of 31st December this year after over 10 years of service on the Executive Board.
After completing his A-levels, Dr. Klein went on to gain a degree in marine engineering at the
University of Hanover. Between 1986 and 1991, he worked as Technical Assistant at the Technical
University of Hamburg-Harburg. After being awarded his doctorate and working on behalf of the
German Research Association for Combustion Engines (FVV) based in Frankfurt, as well as for the
Lürssen shipyard in Bremen, in 1995 Dr. Klein was appointed as Executive Board member
Motorenwerke Bremerhaven AG, of which he is currently the Chairman.
As from 1st January 2004, the Executive Board of Germanischer Lloyd will be composed of Dr.-Ing.
Hermann J. Klein and Dipl.-Kfm. Rainer Schöndube.
