Mark Lamarre, who most recently served as CEO of Australian Shipbuilding Company (ASC), has been named CEO of Seaspan Shipyards effective immediately. The United Seamen's Service (USS) 2014 Admiral of the Ocean Sea Awards (AOTOS) were presented to Stephen Cotton, General Secretary of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF); Joseph J. Cox, President/CEO, Chamber of Shipping of America; and Frederick J. Harris, President of General Dynamics NASSCO and Bath Iron Works, an American shipbuilder. The maritime industry's most prestigious awards were presented at a gala industry dinner and dance held at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, New York City, on November 7, 2014.

Linda P. Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. since 2009, has announced her plan to retire from the company following a distinguished career in the defense industry. To ensure a seamless transition, Hudson has agreed to remain in post through the first quarter 2014. At that time, she will also step down from her positions as executive director of the BAE Systems plc Board and as a member of the Company’s Executive Committee. She will remain on the BAE Systems, Inc. Board as an outside director through April 2015. Hudson, 62, joined BAE Systems, Inc.

The National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), has signed a five-year agreement to continue their use of the Tribon Shipbuilding System at the San Diego shipyard in California. NASSCO will use the Tribon system for the design and production of all of their naval and commercial ships. NASSCO implemented the Tribon Hull system in 1995 on the Sealift New Construction program for the U.S. Navy. In 1997 NASSCO implemented the entire Tribon system including, all hull and outfitting applications. The agreement includes a provision that a Tribon system will be installed at Bath Iron Works, which is also a member of the General Dynamics Corporation Marine Systems Group. Bath Iron Works is working with NASSCO on creating the detailed design of the U.S. Navy’s new T-AKE logistic ships.

U.S. Shipping Partners L.P. said that the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command has agreed to charter two new tankers being constructed for the Partnership's joint venture. The initial charter will be for twelve months at a cost of approximately $51 million. The Navy then has options to extend the charters via three one-year options and a further 11-month option, which if exercised would increase the cost to approximately $220m. The U.S. Navy said the ships would be deployed globally to transport petroleum products in support of US military forces. They will replace the current government-owned T-5 tankers that are expected to reach the end of their service life in 2010.

Moody's Investors Serviced placed the debt ratings of General Dynamics Corporation (GD) under review for possible downgrade and the debt ratings of Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. (NNS) under review for possible upgrade following the announcement of a definitive agreement for GD to acquire NNS in a cash tender offer for all NNS's outstanding shares. The transaction is valued at approximately $2.6 billion, including approximately $500 million of existing NNS's debt. GD, continuing the consolidation process of the defense sector, plans to acquire NNS in a transaction which will combine its Navy shipbuilding and submarine business with the submarine and aircraft carrier businesses of NNS. This transaction would make GD the sole supplier of submarines and aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy.

Stratos Global Corporation announced that Sir Robert Walmsley and Mr. Michael Bayer were elected as new members of the Corporation's Board of Directors at its annual general meeting held May 11, 2006. Sir Robert Walmsley was Chief of Defence Procurement at the UK Ministry of Defense ("MoD") from 1996 until his retirement from public service in 2003. Prior to his MoD appointment, Sir Robert was a career officer in the Royal Navy, where he rose to the rank of Vice Admiral in 1994 and served for two years as Controller of the Navy. Sir Robert is also currently on the Board of Directors of British Energy Group plc., Cohort plc, EDO Corporation and General Dynamics Corporation.

Michael W. Toner, executive vice president, marine systems, General Dynamics Corporation, and president of General Dynamics Electric Boat, Groton, Conn., will address the graduating class at Maine Maritime Academy's 60th Commencement on May 10, 2003. Toner, who will receive an honorary doctorate from the college at the ceremony, has been with Electric Boat for nearly 40 years. Earlier this year, he was named executive vice president, marine systems, of General Dynamics Corp. Marine systems - a position that encompasses all of the corporation's shipbuilding and marine-service operations. In addition, Toner remains president of General Dynamics Electric Boat - a position he has held for more than three years.
