Nine Share in US$6-B DoD Contract Modifications
The US Department of Defense informs that nine companies have each been awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity fixed-price option-year two modifications for international ocean and intermodal distribution services (Universal Services Contract-7). Matson Navigation Company Inc., Oakland, California, estimated $9,645,286 (P00034 to HTC711-12-D-W014). The modifications bring the total cumulative face value of the program to $5,932,834,105. Central Gulf Lines Seeks Transfer Authorization
Central Gulf Lines, Inc., has requested the necessary permissions to transfer one authorization granted under Section 615 of the Merchant Marine Act, 1936, as amended, to a wholly owned subsidiary. Central Gulf’s subsidiary intends to acquire a ship construction contract to be entered into between Liberty Shipping Group Limited Partnership and Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., for the construction of one 52,200 DWT multipurpose bulk ship. The subsidiary will construct the vessel at Oshima Shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan, pursuant to the Section 615 authorization. Upon issuance of the builder’s certificate by Oshima Shipyard the Central Gulf subsidiary will issue a bill of sale for the vessel to Liberty Shipping.
"Tonnage Tax" Provision Included in Tax Bill
Today, Congressman William J. Jefferson announced that his proposed "tonnage tax" provision and three other provisions that will benefit Louisiana were included in the final version of a corporate tax bill that the House approved today. The U.S. House of Representatives approved the final conference report of the House and Senate bills designed to adjust corporate taxes. The "tonnage tax" provision is touted as benefitting United States-flag vessel owners such as Central Gulf Lines, Inc., Waterman Steamship Corporation, and other American maritime companies headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, engaging in international trade by preserving and enhancing maritime employment opportunities for United States seafarers from Louisiana and elsewhere around the country.

Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. has reportedly paid $23 million for a settlement of shipping-related litigation with Central Gulf Lines Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of International Shipholding Corp.
