18 Crew Members Rescued after Ships Collide off Dutch Coast in Storm

The Dutch coastguard rescued 18 crew members from a ship that collided with another vessel in the North Sea on Monday during a storm off the coast of the Netherlands.The vessel, the Maltese registered Julietta D. cargo ship, bound for Amsterdam from Germany, collided with an oil and chemicals tanker, the coastguard said in a statement.After an hour-long rescue operation with helicopters, the coastguard reported that all 18 crew members were taken off the vessel.The Julietta D. is rudderless and taking in water. South Korea Delegation Heads to Iran to Seek Release of Seized Tanker

Amsterdam Completes First SIMOPS LNG Bunkering

Dutch LNG supplier Titan LNG's bunker barge FlexFueler001 has supplied LNG to Ramelia, oil and chemicals tanker owned by Sweden's Alvtank, while the ship was unloading cargo at the Oiltanking Terminal in Amsterdam.It is the first time a simultaneous operation (SIMOPS) has taken place with LNG bunkering in the Port of Amsterdam, allowing the Ramelia to unload cargo whilst receiving LNG bunkers."This important step, in which Oiltanking Amsterdam and Furetank Chartering joined, enables the receiving vessel to have a quicker turnaround in the port as it  does not have to shift to a designated LNG bunkering location, such as the Titan LNG facility…

Missing Tanker Docks in Togo after Suspected Hijacking

A tanker with 19 crew members on board has docked at a port in Togo after going missing for over a week in a suspected hijacking off the West African coast, the crew's agency said on Friday.The Ialkani agency and the ship's managers lost communication with the Panama-registered Pantelena on August 14, when it was about 17 miles (27 km) from the port of Libreville, in Gabon.Two Russian nationals and 17 Georgians were aboard the vessel, a dual purpose oil or chemicals tanker managed by Athens-based Lotus Shipping. Tanker with 19 Crew Missing in Piracy-Plagued West African Waters

A tanker vessel with 19 crew members on board, most of them Georgians, has gone missing in pirate-plagued waters off Gabon in West Africa and no word has been heard from it for a week, the ship's managers and the crew agency said on Wednesday.Communication was lost with the Panama-registered Pantelena at about 2 a.m. local time on Aug. 14, at which time it was about 17 miles from the port of Libreville, in Gabon, Athens-based Lotus Shipping said in a statement.The head of the Georgian crew agency Ialkani, Anzhela Oganesyan, said two Russian nationals and 17 Georgians were aboard the tanker. MAN Diesel & Turbo has supplied a complete propulsion system comprising a 7L32/44CR engine, Renk gears and an Alpha adjustable CP propeller for an ultra-modern chemicals tanker operated by GEFO Gesellschaft für Öltransporte mbH. For MAN Diesel & Turbo, the order represents a breakthrough for the 32/44CR series in the small twin-hulled tanker sector of the market. The tanker, christened Fidelio, has a DWT of 6366 and can transport 260 types of (petro-) chemical materials – from vegetable oil to sulfuric acid. The Fidelio’s main routes will be in northern Europe, however the tanker is also equipped for worldwide operation and therefore complies with the strict emissions regulations enforced in US coastal waters.

Investigators Cite

Investigators said a bizarre combination of factors, including possible human error, had sunk an Italian chemicals tanker off France on October 31. The 7,300-ton Ievoli Sun, carrying 6,000 tons of toxic chemicals, went down in rough seas in the Channel 30 km (17 miles) from France's northerly Cotentin peninsula and close to the small British island of Alderney. It was the second large tanker to sink off France in a year and sparked accusations that owners were compromising safety. However, a preliminary report by the maritime arm of the French Accident Investigation Bureau (BEA) gave the Italian owners Marnavi an initial clean bill of health.

500th Ship Receives ERS Classification

The Histria Perla is the 500th ship to receive ERS classification. The Emergency Response Service (ERS) of Germanischer Lloyd has taken on its 500th ship: The Histria Perla, a chemicals tanker with a tonnage of 40,471 dwt was built in 2005 at the Constantza Shipyard in Romania and classed by Germanischer Lloyd. Nicolae Berechet, Technical Director of Histria Ship Management, received the 500th ERS certificate at the company's headquarters in Constanta, Romania. Accidents, collisions, oil spillages, groundings, on-board fires - the Emergency Response Service has been helping ships in distress for thirteen years. The service is triggered by telephone, using a special emergency number.
