US Coast Guard Rolls Out New Mentoring Program

The U.S. Coast Guard launched an innovative and modernized approach to mentorship Saturday, to offer expanded leadership opportunities to the Coast Guard active duty, reserve and civilian workforce. The program goes beyond traditional mentoring and provides four types of mentoring tracks or connections tailored specifically to individual needs and scheduling preferences. Additionally, program participants will have the opportunity to network with people who work in a wide variety of fields across the organization.

Fishing Vessel, Engineer Guilty of Environmental Crime

New Zealand Fishing Company and Chief Engineer Sentenced for Environmental Crimes and Obstruction of Justice. A New Zealand fishing company that owned and operated the tuna fishing vessel San Nikunau, and a former chief engineer on the ship, were sentenced in federal court today for environmental crimes and obstruction of justice, announced Assistant Attorney General Ignacia S. Moreno of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ronald C. Machen Jr. Sanford Ltd.

Shipping Company, Officers Guilty of Environmental Crimes

Company to Pay More Than $1 Million for Dumping Oily Waste into Hawaiian Waters, Obstruction of Justice and Covering up Oil Pollution. Keoje Marine Co. Ltd. and two engineers from the M/T Keoje Tiger pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Honolulu to environmental crimes violations, announced Environment and Natural Resources Division Assistant Attorney General Ignacia S. U.S. Attorney General To Christen Coast Guard Cutter

Marinette Marine Corporation will launch the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SPAR August 12. The SPAR is the sixth ship in a series of sixteen Seagoing Buoy Tenders, which are being built by Marinette Marine Corp. The vessel will be christened by The Honorable Janet Reno, U.S. Attorney General, who will also serve as the cutter's sponsor. The Honorable Herbert Kohl, (D-WI), U.S. Senate, and Vice Admiral Timothy Josiah, Chief of Staff, U.S. Coast Guard will also be present at the christening. The USCG will honor its past by naming this cutter, SPAR, in testimony to the 11,000 American women who became SPARs and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Measuring 225-ft. (68.5 m), the seagoing buoy tender will serve in Kodiak, Alaska under the command of LCDR Joanna Nunan.

Marinette Marine Corp. is scheduled launch the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SPAR (WLB-206) on Saturday, August 12, 2000. The SPAR is the sixth ship in a series of sixteen Seagoing Buoy Tenders, which are being built by Marinette Marine Corporation. The launch ceremony will include a series of speakers including the Key Note Speaker, The Honorable Janet Reno, U.S. Attorney General, who will also be the cutter's sponsor, The Honorable Herbert Kohl, (D-WI), U.S. Senate, and Vice Admiral Timothy Josiah, Chief of Staff, U.S. Coast Guard. As the sponsor, Ms. Reno will christen the ship. The U.S. Coast Guard will honor its past by naming this cutter, "SPAR", in testimony to the 11,000 American women who became SPAR's and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
