Crowley Maritime Corp. acquired Seattle-based Maritime Management Services, Inc. (MMS), a company with more than a decade’s worth of experience in crew management for offshore oil and gas vessels primarily in the U.S. Gulf, Singapore and Gulf of Mexico. MMS offers crewmembers services such as visas, flag-state and immigration documentation; crewmember certifications, including Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STWC) and any client or operational area requirements; logistics, administrative and travel support; and much more.
Ports Wager Seafood over NFL Showdown
Port of New Orleans President and CEO Gary LaGrange issued a challenge to Port of Seattle CEO Tay Yoshitani three days ahead of the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks NFC Divisional Playoff game. The Port of New Orleans, in conjunction with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, is betting tasty, fresh Louisiana seafood with the Port of Seattle that the Saints will be victorious. “The Who Dat Nation is on a roll, just like Louisiana,” LaGrange said. The Louisiana seafood includes boiled crawfish, wild alligator and New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp.

Remote Medical Embarks on $8 Million Expansion
When a worker on a remote island in the South Pacific had a heart attack, a physician and a nurse were there from Remote Medical International to treat his symptoms. Within hours, Remote Medical operations specialists back at the company’s Seattle headquarters secured a plane and a crew to fly the man 2,400 miles to a Honolulu hospital for treatment, where he survived. A U.S. medical station in Antarctica wanted to consolidate from multiple subcontractors into a seamless, integrated operation. Remote Medical set up 24-hour telemedicine consultants for physicians on the ground and built two ambulances custom-designed for the arctic conditions.
Kvichak Benefits from ARRA Grant
Kvichak Marine Industries of Seattle, WA was a recipient of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) small shipyard grant awarded in August 2009. The grant funded much of the major equipment associated with the company’s new metal processing facility, Flashmark Tech, which opened earlier this year. The grant will also fund the purchase of a new crane for their Seattle headquarters. The crane is made by North Pacific Crane with a capacity of 35,000 pounds. The boom length is 31 feet with a pedestal height of 15 feet.
M/S Zuiderdam Goes Live with Fidelio Cruise
Following inaugural events in Fort Lauderale during December 2002 during where Holland America Line showcased the new vessel to more than 13,000 travel agents, guests and alumni, m/s Zuiderdam has now commenced its year-round Caribbean Cruise program. M/s Zuiderdam, with a capacity of 1848 passengers, is the first of the Vista class vessels to be installed with the latest version of the Fidelio Cruise Ship's Property Management System offering an integrated management system to the vessel. Working closely with Holland America Line's in-house IT department, the team of Fidelio Cruise and Micros POS implementation specialists completed the installation process in time for the vessel's maiden voyage.
