Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy Announces Management Changes
Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy’s President and CO-CEO, Capt. Ed Nanartowich, announced a reorganization of the upper management tier of the school.The move supports both deck and engine course development efforts, special project, and the schools curriculum expansion projects. Chief Engineer Doug Puritis, was appointed Vice President of Academics and spearheads all course development projects as well as servicing as an advanced course instructor and course developer.Chief Engineer Ray Blanchet serves as the Vice President of Operations and has expanded the curriculum base. Mariners Receive Navy League Awards
Two Military Sealift Command civil service mariners - Boatswain Khalid Muhammad and 1st Assistant Engineer Theodore "Scotty" Robinson - were among 18 military and civilian members of the U.S. sea services honored Oct. 31 at the annual Navy League Sea Services Awards ceremony, held this year in Kansas City, Mo. Muhammad received the Able Seaman Oscar Chappell Award for Outstanding Maritime Stewardship for saving the life of a shipmate who suffered a medical emergency. When roused in the middle of the night by a loud crash coming from an adjoining stateroom, Muhammad immediately contacted bridge personnel to inform them of a potential medical emergency. Muhammad then obtained a key, entered the room and found a fellow mariner on the floor suffering convulsions.
Lewis and Clark Completes First T-AKE Deployment
Military Sealift Command (MSC) dry cargo/ammunition ship USNS Lewis and Clark (T-AKE 1) and its crew of 124 civil service mariners and 11 Sailors returned to Naval Station Norfolk Feb. 8, completing a six-month deployment to the U.S. Central Command area of operations. This was the first operational deployment of a ship from the Navy's newest class of combat logistics force ships. During the deployment, Lewis and Clark completed 73 underway replenishments and 28 in-port replenishments, delivering 5,856 pallets of food and supplies and transferring nearly 15 million gallons of fuel to U.S.
