Vigor Begins Vessel Maintenance Project for USCG in Alaska
The U.S Coast Guard has awarded Vigor Alaska, a Titan company, a $3.65 million contract to perform maintenance and repairs on U.S. Coast Guard Cutter John McCormick at the Ketchikan Shipyard.Work on the project begins this week and will cover comprehensive maintenance and repair of the vessel. After USCGC John McCormick is dry docked, the team at Ketchikan Shipyard will inspect the hull plating, conduct maintenance on the ship's propulsion system and renew hull coatings, as well as several other key maintenance and repair operations.
Alaska Class Ferries to Be Built in Ketchikan

In a climate of both seemingly fat backlogs and at the same time uncertainty for domestic shipyards, Vigor Industrial is one company that continues to make news in the shipbuilding and repair merger and acquisition markets. After acquiring Todd Pacific Shipyards in 2011 for $130 million, Vigor also diversified its geographic offerings when it scooped up Alaska Ship and Drydock in Ketchikan after raising $75 million through private equity firm Endeavour Capital. Vigor CEO Frank Foti continues to build scale through acquisitions, while diversifying the companyâs construction and repair capabilities to include cargo fleets, barges and workboats, ferries, and US Navy and Coast Guard vessels, among others.
Alaska Drill Rig Refit Contract Terminated
Buccaneer Energy contextualizes termination of its contract with Archer Drilling as project manager of work on one of its jack-up rigs. The contract was for Archer Drilling to act as project manager of modifications and repairs to the Endeavour-Spirit of Independence jack-up rig owned by Kenai Offshore Ventures, LLC, which is a joint venture between Buccaneer, Singapore based Ezion Holdings Limited and the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (âAIDEAâ). Buccaneer is the designated Manager of Kenai Offshore. Archer Drilling was engaged by Kenai Offshore in October 2011 under a Master Services Agreement (âMSAâ) to provide project management services for the modifications and repairs required to be undertaken to the Endeavour to allow it to operate in the Cook Inlet, Alaska.

Work on the 'Endeavour' rig by local contractors in Homer nears completion prior to deployment for shallow water drilling off Alsaska coast. Before its acquisition in November 15, 2011, the Endeavour had been idle for several years, and Buccaneer and its venture partners, AIDEA and Ezion, deemed it necessary to complete extensive upgrades and repairs to ensure that the rig was ready for safe, long-term operations in Alaska. As such the rig was dry docked at the Keppel Fels yard in Singapore for 6 months undergoing repairs and upgrades that have continued in Homer, Alaska.

Alaska Ship & Drydock Already at Work on the First Vessel to be Completed in the Facility, a 136â Longliner. The outlook for building new ships at Alaska Ship & Drydock (ASD), a Vigor Industrial company, just got a lot brighter, warmer, and drier with the opening of the Ketchikan Shipyardâs state-of-the-art assembly hall designed to build ships up to 500 feet in length. The assembly hall is 70,000 square feet with an adjacent 5-story production center to minimize material flow and maximize efficiency.
Buccaneer's Jack-up Rig Mobilizes to Alaska
Australia-based Buccaneer Energy sees its 'Endeavour â Spirit of Independence' en route to Cook Inlet, Alaska. Buccaneer says it jack-up rig has been loaded on to the heavy lift vessel Kang Sheng Kou bound to drill for fossil fuels in waters off the coast of Alaska. The delivery of the Endeavour jack-up rig to the Cook Inlet will complete the first phase of Buccaneerâs business plan started almost 2 years ago. That plan included the acquisition of the Endeavour and the modification and repairs in Keppel FEL shipyard, which was managed by Buccaneerâs internal management team. The Endeavour project was funded through a joint venture company Kenai Offshore Ventures, LLC (âKOVâ).
Alaska Approves Vigor Purchase of Alaska Ship Leases
Alaska has approved Vigor Industrialâs bid to assume Alaska Ship & Drydockâs (ASD) private/public partnership leases to operate the Ketchikan Shipyard. The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority unanimously voted today in Anchorage to transfer leases to the new Vigor Alaska Ship & Drydock subsidiary, clearing the way for Vigorâs acquisition of the operating company. The purchase was first announced Feb. 7 pending AIDEA approval. Officials of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough and the City of Ketchikan also approved the transfer. âWe start today working with the people here in Ketchikan and throughout Alaska to build even more maritime and industrial jobs at this great facilityâŚ
Vigor to Acquire Alaska Ship & Drydock
Vigor today announced its plan to acquire Alaska Ship and Drydock Inc. (ASD), further consolidating the business of ship repair on the U.S. West Coast. ASD intends to transition its business and assets to Vigor pending approval of the transfer of ownership by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA), the owner of the Ketchikan Shipyard where ASD is based. The private companies hope to finalize their agreement on or before March 1st. ASD would operate the Ketchikan Shipyard (KSY) as the Alaska Ship & Drydock LLC subsidiaryâŚ
Alaska Ship & Drydock Christens the MV Ken Eichnerâ2
On April 2, Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. and the Ketchikan Gateway Borough christened the MV Ken Eichnerâ2 as the Boroughâs second ferry providing service to the Greater Ketchikan International Airport and entering service as the sister ship to the MV Oral Freeman. Both ships were built by Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. (ASD) and are registered as Hull Noâs 001 and 004 respectively for the Ketchikan based Shipbuilder. The project was funded through state legislative appropriations sponsored by Senator Bert Stedman and Representative Kyle Johansen.
