Autopilot-ECDIS Combo Helps Save Fuel

From a graphical presentation of heading plot and corresponding rudder angles, frequency and amplitudes of rudder angles can easily be identified as key indicators of autopilot efficiency. By using the graphical indication of heading and used rudder angle of the NP 5000 autopilot and the easy structured touch screen display, even untrained user are able to adjust autopilot parameters for a more efficient rudder steering. However, only to have manual adjustments is not the optimum, as Andreas Lentfer, Raytheon Anschütz BD Director explained: “Modern autopilots can also adapt to current weather and sea states automatically.
Synapsis receives first INS Type Approval
Synapsis Bridge Control, the new generation of the Raytheon Anschütz bridge system, is the world’s first navigation system which has been type approved according to IMO’s new Performance Standards for Integrated Navigation Systems (INS). In an official ceremony, the nominated body Germanischer Lloyd (GL) handed over the type approval to Raytheon Anschütz beginning of May 2012. The INS Performance Standards are specified in the IMO resolution MSC.252(83) and apply to all newbuildings since 1st January 2011 where Integrated Navigation Systems are installed.
Raytheon Anschütz, Wärtsilä Supply Agreement
The German navigation system supplier Raytheon Anschütz has signed a new agreement with Wärtsilä Corporation, Finland. According to the new agreement, Raytheon Anschütz will supply their Integrated Bridge Systems for Wärtsilä’s total ship system solutions. “We see an increasing demand for larger ship solutions including machinery, automation and navigation", said Andreas Lentfer, Business Development Director at Raytheon Anschütz. Within the agreement Raytheon Anschütz will supply complete Integrated Bridge Systems. Wärtsilä intends to make its integrated packages, combining navigation and automation systems, available for all types of vessels. Wärtsilä services will be backed-up by the global Raytheon Anschütz service network and the central service coordination in Kiel.
