OCIMF's Paper on Northern Sea Route Navigation
Climate change and the associated warming of the Arctic seas has opened up the Northern Sea Route as a possible alternative to more southerly trading routes between Europe and Asia Pacific, but it presents unique challenges to any ship using it. The information paper, which will be released today (7 December), highlights the challenges and best practices that ship managers and Masters should consider when planning and executing a transit of the Northern Sea Route, so that they can make an informed decision about the transit. ReCAAP, OCIMF Sign Asian Anti-Piracy MoU
The safety of navigation is vital to the safety, security and economic activities of all stakeholders traversing sea routes in Asia—the region with some of the busiest seas in the world. Recognising this shared interest, the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre and Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 24, 2017 in London to boost the fight against piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. ESD Systems Recommended for Oil/Chemical Tankers
OCIMF and CDI release new information paper Linked Ship/Shore Emergency Shutdown Systems for Oil and Chemical Transfers. The information paper, jointly released by CDI and OCIMF on April 21 recommends an Emergency Shutdown (ESD) connection that will link ship and terminal ESD systems, so that manual activation by the terminal or ship will stop cargo transfer operations. “Linked ship/shore ESD systems have been a standard safety feature of LNG transfer operations for many years,” said OCIMF Director Captain Andrew Cassels.
OCIMF Encourages Adoption of Inert Gas Systems
The Oil Companies International Marine Forum’s (OCIMF) latest information paper, released on March 13, addresses the use of inert gas for the carriage of flammable oil cargoes. Drydocks World, BP Renew Partnership
Drydocks World – Dubai, the flagship ship repair, conversion and new building yard of Drydocks World, has renewed its long-standing association with BP Shipping with the signing of a new Alliance Agreement.
