Maritime NZ Files Charges for Auckland Port Worker Death

Maritime NZ has filed charges against Ports of Auckland Ltd (POAL) and an individual in relation to the death of a port worker almost a year ago.Pala’amo (Amo) Kalati was killed on August 30, 2020 after being crushed when a container was dropped during a lifting operation.The following charges have been filed in the Auckland District Court:POAL has been charged under sections 47, 48 and 90 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.An individual has been charged under sections 48 and 49 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

Auckland Port and Pilot Fined for Excessive Speed

Ports of Auckland Limited (POAL) and the master of one of its pilot boats have been fined a total of $432,400 (US$286,000) after they admitted exposing people to risk of death or serious injury because pilot boats traveled at excessive speed in the Waitemata Harbor over a period of time involving thousands of voyages.Maritime NZ Director, Keith Manch, said POAL has also agreed to pay $220,000 (US$144,000) to the family of a swimmer, Leslie Gelberger, who died after being struck by POAL pilot boat, Wakatere.

APL launches New Zealand Express II Service

New Rotation of CMA CGM Joint Service Unveiled

CMA CGM S.A. (CMA CGM) announced the rotation of its new service in cooperation with China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL) and Pacific International Lines (PIL), in the North East Asia, Australia and New Zealand Trade, commencing from Shanghai in early November 2014. Auckland Port Led JV to Develop Inland Port

Ports of Auckland, Napier Port and Icepak today announced the formation of a joint-venture to develop a new inland port and intermodal freight hub at Longburn, Palmerston North and to target Growth in Manawatu-Whanganui Region. Located on the site of the old Longburn freezing works owned by Icepak, the venture will see the nine hectare site transformed into a significant intermodal logistics and manufacturing hub. Site clearance is underway and work will start soon on a cross dock to complement the existing Icepak cold store on site. A container yard and container wash facility – to prepare containers to export ready standard – will also be built. This is the first stage of a $20 million development.

GAC Pindar Deliver Large US-built Motorboat to NZ

GAC Pindar in J/V with global freight forwarder TNL International, deliver a 7.6 mt Stamas boat from Georgia USA to Aukland, New Zealand. The privately owned motorboat, which is 3.93 metres high and 12.58 metres long overall, was handled with care for its 15,000km voyage. Before being loaded onto a ship bound for Auckland at Savannah, Georgia, it was shrink-wrapped and cradled on a special mafi trailer.
