Established in 1825, Chantier Davie Shipyard is Canada’s oldest, and still today one of its most innovative, shipyards. Situated in Quebec, the yard has been expanding in both working and production capacity, and its 1,300 workers now have the capability to handle 1,200 t / month of steel production at its 570,000 square meter facilities. AVEVA announced the beginning of a partnership with two institutions in Vietnam, the Shipbuilding Industry Association (VISIA) and The School of Transportation Engineering of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (STE-HUST). AVEVA has released new enhancements to its AVEVA Bocad product range for structural steel detailing software. AVEVA Bocad features a plate and bar nesting capability for more efficient planning and use of materials, the developer said. An enhanced weld numbering and traceability feature provides efficient increased fabrication efficiency, design quality assurance and improved structural integrity maintenance. In addition, elements of AVEVA Bocad can now be brought into AVEVA Marine production tools to fabricate detailed ship and offshore designs.

IACS member classification society the Korean Register (KR) informs it has overhauled its SeaTrust-HullScan software package, a ship design support solution that analyzes and appraises a vessel’s. According to KR, the update will deliver efficiencies when applying the incoming Harmonized Common Structural Rules (CSR-H). As CSR-H includes an expansion in the scope of the direct strength analysis, more time and resource are required. The new SeaTrust-HullScan incorporates additional functionality to support modeling through interfaces with the specialized 3D CAD systems (AVEVA Marine, Smart Marine 3D and others) which are widely used in most shipyards in Korea.

Deltamarin Ltd. has been awarded a contract by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. for the entire machinery and technical spaces outfitting production design of the first LNG-powered icebreaker. AVEVA announced that BMT Defense Services Ltd (BMT) has chosen AVEVA Marine software to serve its current and future customers through improved design efficiency. BMT has selected AVEVA Marine to enable tighter integration between its hull and outfitting disciplines, aiming to improve design efficiency through closer collaboration between disciplines. “AVEVA Marine is used by our key clients, and many potential clients, and hence was an obvious choice for us,” said Roy Quilliam, Technical Director, BMT Defense Services Ltd.

AVEVA announced that it has further strengthened its AVEVA Marine software portfolio with efficiency enhancements to better manage production information. New and improved features have been added to AVEVA Outfitting to better control pipe and steel outfitting fabrication. Aveva announced that Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI),one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, has successfully completed its upgrade from Tribon M3 software to Aveva  Marine for engineering, design and production. HSHI has used Aveva’s legacy Tribon M3 design software very successfully for many years, but chose to upgrade to the very latest Aveva Marine software portfolio after a thorough evaluation that identified major advantages in the new platform, including its powerful features such as customization.

Aveva announced the release of its new Automated Plate Nesting, a plug-in module to Aveva Hull Detailed Design software. It automatically nests parts into raw steel plates, maximizing the usage of the material and drastically reducing the scrap ratio associated with this process. Aveva said shipyards can achieve savings of up to 13% on raw material requirements by minimizing production waste in this manner,when compared to using semi-automatic nesting or other third-party systems.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands. Currently in development for release in 2013 are a mobility platform, a new warehouse and inventory management module, as well as a new Hull Inspection 3D module. Decision follows contract win with STX Promar Shipyard for eight LPG tankers. AVEVA Marine has been selected for implementation by GHENOVA Ingeniería, an International Engineering Company. This follows the signing of a contract between GHENOVA and STX Promar Shipyard. This contract allows the detailed engineering of eight LPG tankers for Transpetro, Petrobras’ logistics and fuel transportation company. The agreement consists of products from the AVEVA Marine portfolio (Hull, Outfitting, Cable Design) and AVEVA Global.

In addition to the AVEVA software, the contract includes a full range of services for implementation and training.
