ASRY All in on Project Jupiter

Project Jupiter, an initiative to create a leading portfolio of Onsite Specialist Contractors, sees ABB, SOLAS, Seven Seas and more invest $3.7m at Bahrain-based ASRY in 2014, with more in the pipeline. ASRY has seen several global specialist contractors, including ABB, SOLAS, and Seven Seas increase their investment at the shipyard to provide more substantial services to ship and rig owners over the course of 2014. ASRY Targets Navy Market

ASRY, the leading ship and rig repair yard in the Arabian Gulf, has launched a new department dedicated to military projects called the Navy Defence and Industrial Projects (NDIP) Department. The specialised team, headed by Anthony Haile, formerly of the UK Royal Navy is expanding ASRY’s strong experience in the defence sector to become one of ASRY’s primary differentiators from other regional yards. The new move is aiming at capturing approximately 60% of the regional Naval market, up from approximately 45% currently. ASRY Chief Executive explained, ‘Naval repair work requires a very specific skill set and unique standards, which we have built up over recent years.

America's VSE Corp. Awarded NAVSEA Foreign Navy Contracts

VSE Corporation informs that its International Group has received several delivery orders totaling more than $13.4M to continue work performed under its Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Naval Ship Transfer and Repair (N*STAR) contract through the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) International Fleet Support Program. Egyptian Navy Fast Missile Craft (FMC) Post-Delivery Activation, Maintenance and Training
VSE will provide technical, logistic and administrative support on post-delivery activation and reactivation plans for critical systems and subsystems in support of four Fast Missile Craft (FMCs) being delivered to Egypt. VSE will provide in-country support to the Egyptian Navy under this delivery order, which has a period of performance of 13 months and a potential value of $7.6M.

Bahrain Meeting on Counterpiracy

Naval leaders and shipping industry experts from 21 nations arrived at the Royal Bahrain Naval Base July 7 for a series of counterpiracy meetings. Royal Bahrain Navy Brig. Gen. Abdulla Saeed Al Mansoori hosted the meeting. Known as the SHared Awareness and DEconfliction (SHADE) meetings, sponsored by the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) and European Union (EU), these gatherings provide a working-level opportunity for navies and organizations to come together to share information and deconflict counterpiracy efforts off the coast of Somalia.

Abu Dhabi, Bahrain Navy Contract

A landing craft similar to those to be built for the Bahrain Navy.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building has been awarded a contract to build four landing craft for the Bahrain Naval Forces. The multi-million dollar contract was won in the face of competition from international shipyards. This is the second Bahraini order for Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the only dedicated naval shipbuilding and repair facility in the Arabian Gulf. The new contract, awarded by the Kingdom of Bahrain Defense Force, is for the construction of two 42-metre steel landing craft and two 16-metre landing craft made of composite materials.

Regional Cooperation Highlighted During NAVCENT Change of Command

During his change of command ceremony, the outgoing Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Vice Adm. Kevin Cosgriff, emphasized the need for fostering relationships with coalition partners. "The more Coalition and partner nations collaborate to provide security for the region the more they are able to achieve," he said. During the ceremony, Vice Adm. William "Bill" Gortney relieved Cosgriff as commander of NAVCENT/U.S. 5th Fleet/Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
