Erma First Acquires one TANK LLC, "World's Smallest BWTS"

Ballast water equipment maker Erma First expands its portfolio and brings "the world’s smallest" ballast water treatment system to the international market through its acquisition of US firm oneTANK LLC.oneTANK, a subsidiary of Glosten, developed a small scale innovative, low-cost, IMO Revised G8 Code and United States Coast Guard compliant system. Based on a patented mixing technology developed by the U.S. Geological Survey, the system can be installed in larger vessels’ aftpeak tanks. It is also suitable for use aboard workboats, tugboats, semi-submersibles, fishing vessels and superyachts.

Hai Cheung to Build SeaCure BWMS in China

Evoqua Water Technologies has initiated the second phase of its partnership with Chinese marine equipment supplier Hai Cheung Trading Co. Ltd. Marking another development to the partnership agreement between Evoqua Water Technologies and Chinese marine equipment supplier Hai Cheung Trading Co. Ltd. signed in February, and which initially covered the sale and supply of Evoqua’s SeaCURE System into the Chinese market, Hong-Kong based Hai Cheung will now manufacture and distribute the ballast water management solution under license in China.

Evoqua Water Technologies’ SeaCure ballast water management system (BWMS) continues to build momentum in the marine market. Today, the company expanded its global partnership network by joining forces with Hai Cheung, a leading marine equipment supplier to the Chinese market. Hai Cheung will initially support Chinese shipyards with the supply and service of Evoqua’s SeaCURE BWMS. In a second phase of the agreement, the Hong Kong-based engineering company will then produce the SeaCURE system under license to facilitate demand from Chinese yards.

Hamworthy Develops New Ballast Water Solutions

Ratification of the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention is widely anticipated within the next 12 months. As a consequence, ship owners are evaluating as a matter of some urgency which ballast water treatment technology is best suited to both their existing and new ships. Recognizing that no one solution will be suitable across all ship types, sizes and environmental conditions, Hamworthy’s dedicated ballast water research and development team has developed two different treatment solutions to provide customers with greater flexibility and choice.

ABS Type Approval for Hyde Guardian

Hyde Marine, Inc. announced that its Hyde GUARDIAN ballast water treatment system (BWTS) received Type Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) on September 13, 2011. Hyde GUARDIAN was the first BWTS to receive Product Design Assessment (PDA) certification from ABS in April 2010. PDA is the technical approval for equipment and is the first step in receiving ABS Type Approval. Founded in 1862, ABS is a leading international classification society devoted to promoting the security of life, property and the marine environment through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.

Lloyd’s Register Releases Guide on Ballast Water Treatment

Lloyd’s Register has released a new Guide to Ballast Water Treatment Technology that provides an independent and impartial description and appraisal of commercially available and developing technologies for ballast water treatment. It is the result of work conducted by the internationally respected Center for Water Science at Cranfield University, UK on behalf of Lloyd’s Register. The treatment of ballast water is one of the most significant environmental and operational challenges facing the marine industry today. In the face of new legislation, ship operators will need to choose a ballast water management solution that will work for them. The new Guide is intended to provide an overview of the current status of ballast water treatment technologies.
